Destiny 17 Season 2: Start date and time, Trials of Osiris changes, new PvP map, and more

Destiny 17 Season 2 will bring new PvP content and big changes to the game's new weapon crafting system. That's when Season 17 kicks off, all about the changes to Iron Banner and the Trials of Osiris, the new dungeon, and other goodies.

Destiny 16 season 2 left a good impression, offering a fun new PsiOps Battlegrounds exercise to get players to log in after they've completed the expansion Witch Queens.

This gives Season 17 the tough task of picking it up and starting to lay the groundwork for the next major expansion. lightfall.

Here's everything we know so far, including changes to weapon crafting, new PvP maps, changes to Osiris challenges, and everything we know about the next subclass to be overhauled.

Destiny 2 Season 17 start date

Season 17 begins May 24 with a weekly reset. As with all seasonal changes, there will be several hours of downtime before you can jump into the game. If you need a retrain, reset time 13:00 PM ET / 10:00 AM PST / 18:00 PM PST / 19:00 PM CET.

You can use 2000 Silver to purchase the new Season Pass, which automatically unlocks the first 10 levels.

Destiny 2 Season 17 content

New dungeon

Dungeons are three-player activities that offer raid-like mechanics and encounters, with another coming in Season 17.

While the player base has been expressing their frustration with Bungie in recent months due to Dungeons being locked out for Digital Deluxe Edition Witch Queens, the developer said that players can upgrade their purchase later.

According to a May 19 Bungie blog post, the new dungeon will arrive on the Daily Reload (10 AM PST / 6 PM BST) on Friday, May 27 - just a few days after the launch of the new season.

While we don't know the name, theme, or rewards of the Dungeon, Bungie has revealed that Normal difficulty will be set at the 1550 power level, while Master difficulty will launch at the same time (although the power level for that hasn't been revealed yet).

As rewards, players can look forward to the following:

  • 1 legendary armor set for each class
    • Artifice versions can also be purchased through Master Difficulty
  • 4 legendary new weapons
  • 2 Legendary Reprised Weapons
  • 1 Exotic weapon
  • 1 Exotic Catalyst
  • 1 exotic accessory (ship or sparrow)
  • 2 legendary emblems

Raid rotation

Vault of Glass could be part of the Raid rotation very soon.
Bungie

Bungie's latest blog post revealed more information about the upcoming raid content rotation in Destiny 2.

Starting with Season 17, raid activities will be split into seasonal and weekly categories "so players can have a little extra freshness," the developers explained.

On the seasonal side, the latest raid and dungeon will provide Pinnacle rewards for all encounters, including the upcoming Season 17 dungeon. On the weekly side, the game will alternate between raids and dungeons every seven days, offering one Pinnacle reward for completing a specific weekly challenge.

Rest assured, these categories will never overlap, which means that the Apprentice's Pledge will not be both a seasonal and a weekly raid.

The current Destiny 2 raids, in case you forgot, are:

  • Acolyte's Oath
  • Crystal Hall
  • Deep Stone Crypt
  • Last wish
  • Salvation Garden

Crucible cards

We are finally getting a new PvP map, Disjunction, set in the Throne Realm of Savatún.

Bungie

It will be perfect for the return of the Rift, which will be reintroduced as part of a major overhaul. Iron Banner in Season 17 before being added to the Crucible in Season 18.

Reworking the Trials of Osiris

Trials of Osiris is getting another shake-up in Destiny 2 Season 17.
Bungie

The Gambit has undergone significant changes in the Season of the Risen, but in Season 17 it is the turn of the Trials of Osiris.

Destiny 2's PvP mode has gone through a lot of tweaks in recent months, but Bungie has mentioned that it will be getting some changes in Season 17 in a blog post before witch queen.

"Fear not, Trials fans, while our main focus for Season 16 is Gambit, we still have some fun changes planned," the post reads. Here are the changes mentioned so far:

  • Capture Zone and Freelance weekends will continue.
  • Seven maps per season in rotation, one of which will be determined by player voting.
  • Adept reward changes.

Iron Banner Rework

Lord Saladin and the Iron Banner will have a big change in Season 17, starting with Saladin's name. Starting in Season 17, it will be known as the Forge of Bracus, and you will find it where Eva Levante usually stands, in the center of the Tower. The power level will be disabled in the new Iron Banner, and the new mode for this season will be Rift, with modes changing in future seasons.

Tokens will also be removed and replaced with a ranking system similar to what you see in Shaxx and the Crucible. You can earn Iron Engrams as you rank up, as well as unlock new cosmetics and materials after each match. You can convert Iron Engrams to any current Iron Banner weapon or armor set that you have earned in the past for an in-game material cost. There will also be a new seal and title, which are estimated to take you between 15 and 20 hours to complete. No more cheese for you!

Another benefit of these changes is the addition of the new Disjunction map, which is one of the larger maps. It takes place in the Throneworld Pyramid area, keeping up the spooky theme of the Witch Queen. It will also be available in the Crucible for the true PvP champions among you, as well as in the Rift. The downside is that the Iron Banner only runs twice during the new season on May 31st and July 12th, so write that down in your diary.

Weapon crafting changes

The Witch Queen has added a new weapon crafting system, but players have found their creativity limited by the material caps and the sheer number of required items.

Bungie is fixing the first set as part of Season of the Risen, but in Season 17, all but neutral items will be removed. Bungie has stated that the idea is to make it easier to craft weapons and is also looking to change the way patterns are obtained, but does not provide any further details.

Sandbox changes

Destiny 2 Season 17 - Weapons

We know that the new ritual weapon will be a machine gun called chain of command - bundled with skins for Gambit, Vanguard and Crucible.

Then there are the exotics - the last few seasonal exotics have been pretty wild, ranging from Cryosthesia, which is our first Stasis side weapon, to Grand Overture, which is a hybrid machine gun and rocket launcher. We expect one of them to be linked to the battle pass again.

It looks like Bungie forgot to edit the Japanese version of the RoboCop-themed weapon in a recent blog post, which means we could have seen it in Season 17. For those who don't remember, the gun was found in an addendum Rise of Iron from Destiny 1, and it fires bursts of arc rounds. Reloading after a kill also causes a longer and more powerful explosion.

According to Bungie, players will also be able to earn the new Riptide Fusion Rifle, Dead Weight Shotgun, and Strident Whistle Bow from Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard, respectively.

Check out the new Nightfall, Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris spins below.

We know some of the weapons that are leaving the game (at least for now) in Season 18, according to Bungie:

    • Peacebond Sidearm
    • Archon Thunder Machine Gun
  • Twilight
    • PLUG ONE.1 Fusion Rifle
    • Hothead rocket launcher
  • Trials of Osiris
    • Eye of Sol sniper rifle
    • Summoner's Automatic Rifle

Destiny 2 Arc/Solar 3.0

Sandbox lead Kevin Yanes has suggested that many of the Synaptic Spear moves and attacks found in Season of the Risen are actually a testing ground for Arc 3.0.

We know that Destiny's Arc and Solar classes will be revised to match Stasis and Void 3.0 in the coming months, but we don't know which one will come first.

However, longtime Destiny 2 whistleblower @DestinyTwoLeaks tweeted that Solar 3.0 will be next.

Bungie had previously suggested that Arc 3.0 would be tied to fast attacks and AoEs (such as chain lightning), while Solar 3.0 would have healing effects as well as burn.

Destiny 2 Season 17 Story and Characters

Can we reunite with Rasputin in Season 17?
Bungie

The Season of the Risen is focused on continuing our advance on Lucent's Hive, even after Savathoun is defeated at the end of the Witch-Queen's campaign.

It seems unlikely that we will continue to fight alongside Kayatl's Cabal forces next season, but one theory seems to suggest that Rasputin may return.

The AI hasn't been seen since the Forsaken Warmind expansion, and its loyalty is hard to decipher - it's just as likely to help the Guardians as it is to nuke them from orbit.

As the Paul Tassi from ForbesIt looks like Rasputin might be given Exo's body and a new name: Archangel. Is it time for a reunion?

Whatever happens, Bungie developers are excited about it. The game's new Senior Narrative Designer, Dr. Hazel Monforton, had the following to say.

Destiny 2 Season 17: Price

Season 17 will continue with a Season Pass model, which means you you can buy for 2000 silver.

If you have the Witch Queen Deluxe Edition, you're already covered in seasons 17, 18, and 19.

Maybe it's time for Destiny 2 to move to a subscription model?
