7 Must-Have Fortnite Building Tips in Chapter 3 Season 3

Knowing how to build in Fortnite is what separates the average player from the very best players, and deploying it correctly can be the difference between winning and losing. That's why we've put together a few Fortnite building tips you need to know in Chapter 3 Season 3.

Despite all the exciting new features that come with every new season of Fortnite, like Chapter 3's ability to ride animals, building remains the most important skill to master.

If you prefer to play the classic Fortnite mode where you can deploy cover on the fly, then knowing how to build efficiently is critical if you're going to get wins on a regular basis.

Luckily, we've got a guide to the top seven Fortnite building tips you need to know in Chapter 3 Season 3. Let's take a look.

Select Builder Pro controller configuration

Setting up Builder Pro makes life a lot easier when trying to build.

If you're playing on console, one of the most important tips for creating Fortnite — change control scheme to Builder Pro. This changes the input required to create each structure and makes it faster and smoother.

Instead of cycling through different options with shoulder buttons, Builder Pro maps one structure to its own button. This saves valuable time in heated fights and allows you to build at high speed once you get comfortable with the controls.

To change the settings on Builder Pro, simply go to the in-game settings before getting into a match. Scroll down to Controller Settings and you will see Builder Pro on the left side of the screen under Controller Configuration.

Building 90

90 is a building option in Fortnite and is really easy to pull off.

Let's start with one of the basics. Chances are if you've spent some time playing Fortnite you've seen players build towers out of boxes at lightning speeds - they're called 90 and they're one of the most important Fortnite building tips.

90 is popular because of how quickly they can be built and the 360 degree protection they offer. Basically, you place four walls, a floor, and a ramp as quickly as possible by jumping and spinning in a circle, hence the name.

To build 90 quickly and easily, start with one ramp and then place walls. Follow this with a jump, then a floor and another ramp to build you up. Repeat the process to gain height quickly.

It's also worth noting that jump fatigue sets in after two jumps, so once you hit 90, try getting into the habit of doing one of three flights without jumping. This is achieved by placing yourself at the back of the ramp you are building so you don't have to jump onto it.

Tunneling

Sometimes you need to make a quick escape.

90 is useful if you want to secure high ground, but what if you need to move horizontally? This is where our next big Fortnite building tip, tunneling, comes into play.

Here you build a series of interconnected boxes so you can move around while being protected from enemy fire. It can be used while on the ground, but is most effective during dogfights.

All you have to do is start by placing the floor panel and then quickly build the walls and roof to form the box. Finally, quickly edit through one of the walls and repeat.

Tunneling is an incredibly useful technique, whether you need to quickly run away or you are attacking the enemy.

Rooftops are your friends

When you're first starting out, cones may seem like the least useful of the building options, as walls, ramps, and floors have far more obvious benefits. However, proper use of cones is essential if you are going to be an effective builder.

Cones are perfect for stopping adversaries in a hurry. They can't be easily built on top of them, and they're awkward to navigate, so throwing cones when you have high ground is a good way to force enemies to reposition.

They also come in handy when you are building yourself, as they block the vision of the enemies above you. Rotating and building walls with cones on top while building up is a popular method used by experienced players called "Thwifo cones".

Boxing

Boxing in an opponent drastically limits their options.

Boxing has been a popular tactic in Fortnite for some time, but it's not always obvious how to use it effectively. As the name suggests, this is the process of trapping your opponent in a box, which he must mine or shoot.

If there is an enemy on the other side of your wall, build cones above and below them and build walls around them. Less experienced players will often panic in this situation as they suddenly cannot build their exit.

The key to this Fortnite building tip is to edit the window in the middle of one of the walls, as this gives you cover and allows you to land box shots at the same time.

If you're trying to box an opponent on the go, throw your cones first as they have the most reach of any build in Fortnite.

Triple Edit

Building is often seen as a defensive tool, but it's also incredibly useful for more aggressive games. The key is to be able to quickly edit your own build so you can push opponents while still maintaining some degree of cover.

Once you get comfortable with editing, you can start practicing triple editing. While laying the ramps, they require you to quickly build the floor and cone, edit through them, and then the wall to edit everything.

This basically allows you to close the gap between you and an opponent who has a higher position without leaving you open. However, you will still be at risk from shots from either side, so be careful when using this technique in wide open spaces.

It will take a lot of practice to master, as this is one of the most advanced Fortnite building tips that requires incredibly fast reactions.

Practice in creative mode

Creative mode is the perfect place to master building.

The last of our tips for making Fortnite might seem obvious, but you'd be surprised how many players don't use creative mode. Here you can practice your building to your heart's content without the pressure of a real match.

Many of the tips we have listed take time to master, but can result in instant death if messed up in the heat of battle. That's why we recommend using creative mode as a safe space.

For more advanced techniques like triple editing, it's all about learning the rhythm and being able to play it quickly. The only sure way to learn is to repeat the action over and over again until you are confident enough to use it in the right way.
