Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic PS5 Remake Announced
Sony kicked off today's PlayStation Showcase with the announcement of the rumored remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The classic RPG is being rebuilt from the ground up for PlayStation 5.
The original title was developed by Bioware and released in July 2003. The game is set 4000 years before the events of the original film trilogy during the era of the Old Republic of Star Wars, where players control a character that can match either Jedi or Sith, depending on the choices they make.
Today's teaser trailer shows nothing more than an intimidating look at Darth Revan, but that's probably more than enough to get many Star Wars fans rushing to join him.
The game is being developed by Aspyr Media, a team that has brought several older Star Wars games to modern platforms in recent years, such as Episode 1: Racer and Republic Commando. Speaking to the PlayStation Blog, Aspyr Lead Producer Ryan Treadwell says the following:
“The team at Aspyr and Sony Interactive Entertainment have joined forces with Lucasfilm Games to bring you a remake of this classic Star Wars adventure. We are recreating one of the greatest RPGs of all time for a new generation with state-of-the-art technology, features, visuals and more, while maintaining the integrity of the story and characters we hold dear.”
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake will be released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, which means it will most likely be released on PC as well. As for other consoles, the wording of the release suggests they may be moved to another location some time after launch, but this remains to be seen. The game does not currently have a release window.
