Is Apex Legends Losing Popularity Due to Decline in Twitch Activity?

Apex Legends

The loss of players in Apex Legends could lead to a significant drop in the number of battle royale titles.

In early 2019, developer Respawn Entertainment made a huge splash in the video game industry with its "Apex Legends" title, which quickly amassed tens of millions of players and climbed to the top of the Twitch viewership chart. However, it appears that the lack of satisfying new content and frustrating bugs in Apex Legends in recent months has seen the Battle Royale game lose many players due to a massive drop in viewership on popular streaming platform Twitch.

Apex Legends Losing Players

Thanks to a strong marketing strategy to attract the biggest battle streamers on Twitch, Apex Legends managed to reach an average of 200 viewers within the first weeks of its official release. Combining this with high-profile personalities Shroud, Tyler "Ninja" Belvins, Guy "Dr DisRespect" Behm, and rising Apex Legends NRG Esports' superstar Coby "Dizzy" Meadows participating in the Twitch Rivals tournament together, Respawn Entertainment, the new Battle Royale has quickly become the most popular game to watch on Twitch. This resulted in the game gaining an absurd amount of players and not even bothering to lose them.

However, according to Polygon's report, Twitch's view statistics website visit rates showed Apex Legends losing viewership on Twitch from an average of 200 to the current average of 000 to 40 viewers. This is even when Shroud and Dr DisRespect are streaming the game at the same time and each has over 000 viewers. While this is not an official count of Apex Legends players, there is a high possibility that the overall decline in interest in the game due to the loss of players has resulted in the loss of the insane numbers of viewers it amassed when it was first released.

With Respawn Entertainment being very vocal about their title gaining a very large player base early in its life, the fact that the developer hasn't been very vocal in recent months regarding the number of players playing has caused parts of the community to believe that Apex Legends is losing to players at a constant rate.

Do you feel that Apex Legends has been losing players lately, which has caused Twitch viewership to drop? Let us know in the comments below!
