That China has been increasingly influencing the gaming world has been obvious for a long time, but it wasn't until the October 2019 scandal starring Blizzard that it showed just how much influence it really has. American corporations view the average country as a huge market and are willing to make many concessions just to appease the government.

Two years ago, the name Tencent was totally alien to any American or European player. Today, it is becoming better known. - What Happens in Video Games Industry in 2020 - document - 2019-12-30
Two years ago, the Tencent name was completely foreign to any American or European player. Today she is becoming more and more famous.

China itself, on the other hand, is ready to invest in computer games, not only producing them, but, above all, increasingly buying shares of other well-known companies from the USA and Europe. This happens mainly through Tencent, a mega corporation headquartered in Shenzhen, which not only makes more money from Games than others, but also owns shares in many companies, such as Riot Games, Epic Games, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft or Paradox.

While Blizzard has apologized, pleaded, and promised that banning Blitzchung from supporting Hong Kong protesters was a one-time mistake, it's doubtful the company would sacrifice such a large market. Other companies won't give it up either. And China will continue to buy more and more shares of other large companies. However, something else will also change—the perception of the players. They now take a strong position on this issue and will definitely voice their opinion loudly. We can expect any news of Chinese interference to be hotly debated throughout the industry.
