Astroneer: How to Get and Where to Find Tungsten

Astroneer

We will look at where to find wolframite and how to convert it to wolfram.!

Our guide to mining tungsten in Astroneer will help you find the most important wolframite you need to create tungsten. You'll need to take a little space travel to get it, but it's worth it.

Tungsten is another important fossil resource in the Astroneer. You will need it to create various structures such as the Hydrazine Drive, the Medium Generator, and the Chemistry Lab. It is also part of the Trading Platform, which will allow you to exchange Scrap for important resources.

CREATING A SMALL SHUTTLE

We will need to travel, so we need a ship. It's not too expensive to create a small shuttle, although you'll need a large printer and 1500 bytes to unlock it. Once we get this, you will need 2x Aluminum. Aluminum is a resource like tungsten, so you'll want to craft a smelter. To do this, we need laterite, and it is found underground in caves. So, go explore and search in natural cave formations.

MELTING FURNACE

Once you've got Aluminum and crafted your ship, we'll need a couple more things before we can take off. The first is the Solid Fuel Engine that will take us to the planet and bring us back. It costs 1x aluminum and 1x ammonium. Aluminum, which we should already have, but ammonium does not occur naturally on the starting planet. However, we can get it in a different way. We will need to create a Soil Centrifuge which requires 1x Aluminum and 2x Composition, as well as 750 bytes. Once you've created this, you'll need to create a Canister. This will hold the soil for us, so put it in your bag and go to the farm. You will need to fill the canister and then return it to the centrifuge. Put the Canister on it and it will extract the ammonium. You will need to do this twice to create 1x Ammonium. Then you can create a solid propellant engine and place it on our ship.

Technically, you can just fly away from here on a ship, but it will make your journey much easier if you create an oxygenator. If you don't do this, you won't be able to connect the Teters to the ship and explore a new planet or moon very effectively. For this you will need 1x Aluminum and 1x Ceramic. We should already have Aluminum, but you may not need Ceramic yet. To get Pottery, you need clay. It is quite rare on the planet, but you can also create it with a soil centrifuge. Create it and place it on your ship!

Shuttle/OXYGENATOR

SPACE FLIGHT

One of the key features of a solid propellant is that it can only take you into space, land on a planet, return to space, and then land again somewhere. Once you have completed this journey, your engine will become unusable! It took me a while to figure it out and I had to build another engine from scratch because I took off and landed again on a new planet. So when you land somewhere in an alien world, you don't want to take off and land somewhere else again if you haven't fully planned it!

Remember to bring some Tethers with you, sometimes it can be hard to find a connection depending on where you landed. A few resins are fine too, you can convert them into oxygen filters.

WHERE TO FIND WOLFRAMITE

Wolframite can be located in two different locations: Calidor and Desolo. Desolo is the moon for Silva, which is the starting planet. This will be your best bet for searching and will probably be your first spacewalk.

HOW TO CREATE TUNGSTEN

Throw some wolframite into your smelter and it will create wolfram!

RECIPES FROM TUNGSTEN

  • Hydrazine engine: 1x tungsten, 1x titanium alloy

  • Medium Generator: 1x tungsten, 1x aluminum

  • Winch: 1x Rubber, 1x Tungsten

  • Chemical laboratory: 1x tungsten, 1x glass, 1x ceramic

  • Trading Platform: 1x iron, 1x tungsten, 1x composition

  • Wolfram carbide: 1x tungsten, 1x carbon
