Regulations of the 1/8 finals of Euro 2020
The final stage of the European Championship is held for the second time with the participation of 24 teams. According to the results of the group tournament, in which the participants are divided into six quartets, 1 teams get into the 8/16 finals - two best from each group and four strongest from among those who took third places. As a result of the past games, Finland and Slovakia turned out to be “superfluous”.
There is no draw in determining playoff pairs at any stage of the Euro - the grid is determined for the entire decisive part of the tournament. At the same time, a special formula is used to distribute the teams that have become third. It takes into account which groups these teams came from.
Round of 1 matches will be played over four days, from 8 to 26 June. Each of them will have two matches. The format is familiar - if after 29 minutes the opponents do not reveal the winner, extra time is assigned from two 90-minute halves, and then, if necessary, a series of post-match penalties.
Belgium
Team Roberto Martinez in the group matches, she showed that it is not in vain that she is considered one of the main contenders for the trophy in this draw. Three wins and a total goal difference of 7:1, another confirmation of this.
The first game against Russia was dictated by the Red Devils and ended in a convincing 3-0 victory Rommel Lukaku and companies. The Danes tried to resist in the second match, but they were also outplayed in the end - Belgium scored twice, conceding the only goal into their own net in the entire group round. The third victory over the Finns with a score of 2:0 showed that the Belgians are fully prepared for more serious opponents, and allowed them to rightfully take the first line in their quartet.
Portugal
Footballers Fernando Santos had some difficulties with reaching the playoffs and resolved this issue only in the third round. This is not surprising, given the level of the Portuguese rivals in the group.
In the first fight Cristianu Ronaldo with partners drove around the Hungarian national team, scoring them three unanswered goals. Then followed a difficult and exhausting game with Germany, in which defensive mistakes had negative consequences and resulted in a defeat with a score of 2:4, which complicated the tournament task for the national team.
In the final confrontation with the current world champions, the French, Cristiano Ronaldo's double helped to get a 2-2 draw, and with it a ticket to the next round from third place in the quartet.
