Biomes Valheim. Detailed Guide to the Continent.

In the game Valheim, you can find several different biomes with a unique natural environment. Each of them is characterized by certain types of resources and is inhabited by unique types of enemies. For example, in the black forest you can find a wide range of wood, including high-quality species, as well as metal deposits. Iron can be found in the swamps, and there are many stones and tree branches in the meadows. Knowing the location of each biome will allow you to extract resources more efficiently.

Each player in the game Valheim generates a random map that needs to be explored. Initially, you will not have a complete map of the world, but as you explore the land, you will be able to find out what mountains, plains and other areas of the terrain look like. The top right corner of the minimap always shows the current biome you are in. If you hover over a piece of terrain on the expanded map, the name of the biome will appear in the upper right corner.

Grasslands

The first biome you will spawn in at the start of the game is the Grasslands. They are the safest and appear on the map as light green patches between forests. The meadows are covered with grass, bushes, oaks, birches, beeches and firs grow on them.

Black forest

The Black Forest is a forest on the game map that can look similar to other forests, so you need to be careful and make sure you enter this forest. There are many resources to be found in the Black Forest, but it is also full of evil spirits that can attack you from any direction. The forest consists predominantly of coniferous trees such as spruces and pines and is characterized by a large number of hills and boulders, which may contain copper and tin. The area is inhabited by Skeletons, Greydwarfs, and Trolls.

Swamp

The swamp is a swampy and gloomy area, where massive trees and dangerous creatures are located. Huge trees hide the sky, creating shading and darkness even during the day. The only sources of light here are the rare Fire Geysers that spawn Surtlings, and the green ominous torches that indicate dungeon entrances. As in other biomes, abandoned structures made of stone and wood can be found in the swamps, where Draugr and Skeletons often spawn. Sometimes you can stumble upon mysterious stone statues whose purpose is unknown.

There are sunken crypts in the swamps that can be opened using a key. Crypts are made up of dark rooms and corridors separated by piles of filthy scrap, in which you can find Scrap Metal, Leather Scraps, and Withered Bones.

Heaps of dirty scrap are sometimes buried under the ground of swamps. They can be found using the Bow, which the character receives after killing the Mass of Bones.

When exploring the swamps, players should be careful: the local waters are inhabited by leeches, which are difficult to spot, and the Abomination is well camouflaged. Some of the creatures in the swamps are poisonous, so it's always a good idea to have antidote mead on hand.

In the swamps, special infected trees grow, on which you can get slime from growths. In swamps, it usually rains lightly, and the player is always affected by Dampness and Cold.

Creatures found in the swamps can be hostile, such as the Goose, Slug, Draugr, Elite Draugr, Skeleton, Surtling, Ghost, Leech, Abomination, as well as the boss Bone Mass.

Равнина

The plains are wide golden expanses with gentle hills and sparse trees. Here you can observe many different rock formations, some of which are natural, and some were erected by fulings. Scattered across the plains are small fuling villages, which are mostly made of timber and deerskins.

When playing through the game, the plains are the last biome the player will visit. Despite the light and spacious appearance of this biome, fogs often occur here. The plains are inhabited by many very strong opponents, including the most dangerous of them - Deathstinger, who are ready to attack any moving creature.

On the Plains are the altars for summoning the fifth Fallen, Yaglut. Also in these open spaces there are pools of tar, which are inhabited by undergrowth, dangerous creatures resembling slugs. They can jump long distances and shoot tar at the player, dealing heavy damage and making them unable to move.

Pools on the plains contain a large amount of tar, but in order to collect it, you must first drain all the tar from the pool. To do this, you can dig a trench next to the pool with a pickaxe and drain it there. Also on the plains you can find huge pillars of stone that can be destroyed with a pickaxe, and used as a base for building houses and stairs.

The plains biome is inhabited by various creatures, among which the seagull can be distinguished as a passive creature, as well as Fuling, Fuling Berserker, Fuling Shaman, Bull Lizard, Death Stinger and Growth as hostile. Finally, in the Plains you can also find the boss - Yaglut.

The resources that can be found in the plains include wood, goblin totem, quality wood, stone, and others.

Mountain

In the snow-capped mountains, overgrown with rare fir trees, there is a wild and harsh land, which is home to wolves and other descendants of Fenrir. Dragons, the children of the Mother (Fallen, terrain boss), can be found in the skies, where they build their nests on mountain tops to guard their eggs. Beware of moving the piles of stones, they may be stone golems that are resting there. In the mountains, players can receive a freezing debuff that deals true damage to the character every second if they are away from a source of fire, such as a hearth or campfire. This effect can be prevented by using frost-resistant mead. In addition, players can equip armor that protects against cold and freezing: Wolf Chestpiece, Fenris Vestment, Wolf Hide Cloak, Ox Lizard Hide Cloak, or Feather Cape. The mountains also contain altars and vegvisirs used to summon the Mother, the fourth Fallen. Ice caves can also be found in the mountains. Mountains are unique in that they are found throughout Valheim, from the central part of the world to its outskirts, including the Ashlands and the Far North. Creatures that can be found in the mountains include hostiles: wolves, dragons, stone golems, Fenrings (only at night), skeletons (in tower buildings), draugrs (patrol at night in groups of three), ulves, cultists, and bats. The boss of the mountains is the Mother. Resources found in the mountains include Silver Ore (requires shackle), Obsidian, Wood, Solid Wood, Quality Wood, Onion Seeds (in chests), Stone, Crystals, and Wolf Fangs.

Ocean

The ocean is a vast expanse of water that unites both large and small islands. To move across the ocean, it is best to use water transport - a raft, a carve or a drakkar, since swimming in the ocean quickly tires and exhausts the body. Dangerous creatures, such as snakes, live in the depths of the waters. They attack ships and drown unwary travelers. The probability of surviving after meeting them on a raft or carvee is much less than on a longship. Also in the ocean you can find small islands covered with deep shells that contain chitin. One of these islands is the back of Leviathan, and if you break off a few deep shells, he will begin to sink under the water. Creatures in the ocean can be passive, such as fish or Leviathans, and hostile, such as snakes. Resources include chitin, which can be obtained from deep shells, as well as snake meat and scales, which can be obtained by killing a snake on land.

misty lands

Mistlands is a biome surrounded by dense fog. It consists of mountainous areas with dark or green rocks, hardened lava, and green grass. Firefly Light can be used to reveal the fog around the player character. In this biome you can meet different types of creatures. Among them are neutral Dverg Rogue and Dverg Mage, passive Hare, hostile Seeker, Seeker Brood, Seeker Soldier, Gjall and Tick. There is also a boss - the Queen.

Ashlands

"Lands of Ashes" is a biome. It is a dry, barren wasteland located in the south of every map and is home only to the Syrtlings (with the exception of the Fire Geysers). It occupies a large, thin crescent shape along the southern border.

Many large land masses and smaller islands where flaming creatures flicker. Occasionally, a group of Sertlings can be found around Shining Metal.

Radiant Metal can be mined with an Iron Pick to obtain Flametal Ore.

The "Lands of Ashes" is possibly a reference to Muspelheim, a realm to the south composed of fire and guarded by the fire giant Surtr in Norse mythology.

far north

This is a description of a snowy biome located in the northern part of the game world. Much of the area is made up of icy wastelands, but there are also mountains that look similar to those found in the central parts of the world. There is currently no vegetation or animals in this biome.

On the islands of this biome there are reservoirs where small ice floes and icebergs float. Ice floes move on waves and can break when colliding with each other, but they can be moved on. Icebergs are large pieces of ice, some of which are underwater. Like normal rocks, icebergs can be destroyed with a pickaxe.

On the coast of this biome, you can find stone cliffs, which can also be destroyed with a pickaxe. Stone is the only resource that can be mined in this biome.

In some places on the islands of this biome, you can see the edge of the world. However, you should not swim up to it, since the current in this area is very strong. Once the player swims within 50-100 meters of the edge, the boat cannot resist the current, even if there is wind in the right direction.
