Battle of Midway - Call of Duty Vanguard Walkthrough

This page of our Call of Duty Vanguard Wiki contains step by step instructions on how to complete the fourth story mission: The Battle of Midway. How to fly a plane and sink aircraft carriers.

NOTE . Unlike many previous Call of Duty games, there are no collectibles or intel in the Vanguard campaign. Just enjoy the game and "kill as many fascists as you can".

At the beginning of the mission, Wade will be at the pre-mission briefing. After the meeting is over, you will need to go to your plane.

Follow Mateo

Follow Mateo through the door on the left, then down the corridor. Turn left at the crossroads and head towards the hangar.

Climb up the stairs and continue walking next to Mateo.

Mateo will call for an elevator when you get close, so wait for it to go up, then walk up and look at it for a Climb up clue.

Once the elevator reaches the top, turn around and follow Mateo down the flight deck, then turn right when you reach the second plane.

Get into the cockpit

Approach the wing and interact with it to get inside and the flight crew will help you get into position for takeoff.

Prepare for takeoff

Learn the controls to prepare for takeoff and determine if you want to change controls.

Once you get a big go-ahead from the team, hold the left analog stick forward to increase power, then release the brake to take off.

Join the squadron

Climb up and take off to join the rest of the squadron.

Keep up with the plane ahead of you until you join the rest of the planes above the clouds.

Follow the squadron

After a while, several enemy planes will fly through the formation and attack your squad.

Protect your squadron

Break formation and chase enemy planes by locking focus and chasing one plane at a time (fix with the "Aim" button, which is LT/L2 by default).

Get back in line

After you clear the planes, you need to regroup with the other pilots, so go back to your squad leader and follow them to the bombardment target.

Launch a dive bomb

Wait for other planes to start descending, then start your own dive approach (X/Square by default).

Dodge to avoid bullets.

ACHIEVEMENT : Complete this bombardment without getting hit by bullets to get the achievement Duck and Dive.

First bombing

Keep falling and dodging bullets, then enter bomb aiming mode and align the aiming reticle with the target.

When you get close enough, drop a bomb (default RB/R1), then pull up to avoid crashing into an aircraft carrier or the sea.

Withstand counterattack

Now that you're in the middle of the enemy fleet, it's time for another dogfight. Take the same course as before, focusing on one plane at a time, locking on and aiming until you annihilate the enemies.

However, this time your fellow pilots will also be hunted by enemy aircraft and you will have the opportunity to save them by targeting the attackers.

These aircraft will be marked with orange skull icons, so take advantage of these opportunities by killing enemy ships.

ACHIEVEMENT : Rescue 5 of your fellow pilots from attacking planes to earn the "Slowly But Surely" achievement.

Group up and climb

Once enough enemy planes have been shot down, Wade will call in a second bomber to take out the second carrier, so get close to your squadmates and start climbing again.

Reach high to drop the bomb

You will have to fly up quite a long time to reach the height, so dodge the fire of the approaching planes and shoot back as you climb.

Launch a dive bomb

Once you gain altitude, drop the bomb in the same way as before.

Several guns will shoot at you, so avoiding them will be more difficult. Keep to the left or right and move up or down slightly to avoid most of the gunfire.

Once you get close enough and the reticle turns green, drop the second bomb to trigger a cutscene and end the mission.
