This week has been full of drama on every level. From YouTube star Jenna Marbles leaving the platform indefinitely to Mixer announcing its unexpected closure, it feels like the entertainment world is being turned upside down—and we've got everything you need to stay up to date.

Twitch Receives $25 Million Lawsuit Over… Female Streamers?

What, what? You heard it right... Earlier this week, Twitch was hit by a whopping $25 million lawsuit when plaintiff Eric Estavillo accused the platform of its "sexual connotations" and asked for a permanent ban on a long list of female streamers, including names like Pokimane, Alinity and Amouranth, among others.

Why is he suing? Estavillo has claimed to be suffering from medical issues that make the internet his only source of entertainment (including OCD and sex addiction), arguing that "Twitch has made his condition extremely aggravated by showing many sexually attractive female streamers through Twitch's corrupted programming code, making it it is practically impossible for the plaintiff to use Twitch without being exposed to such sexual content.”

How did it happen? Well... it seems that Estavillo has also sued other companies beforehand over similarly ridiculous complaints, so it's impossible to tell if he's serious about the lawsuit or if he's just a massive troll.

Mixer shuts down after allegations of racism

platform

What the ..? Perhaps in one of the most shocking developments of the week, Mixer, a popular Twitch competitor, announced its unexpected closure on Monday, June 21, leaving a number of streamers and staff members shocked. The platform is now teaming up with social giant Facebook Gaming.

Why did this happen? While it's unclear why the decision was made, this development follows allegations of racist behavior by the company against a former employee on Twitter the day before who claimed his employer had made racist comments.

What about streamers? Despite leaving many broadcasters without a platform, streaming stars Ninja and Shroud have apparently come out on top, with sources saying Ninja forced Mixer buy him back for $30 million instead of moving to Facebook Gaming, Shroud made a $10 million deal, as esports insider Rod 'Slasher' Breslau first told us.

Jenna Mrumble is leaving YouTube... for good?

butuber

Who is Jenna Marbles? For those who don't know, Jenna Marbles is one of the most popular content creators on YouTube. She began her journey on the platform in 2010 with a variety of content ranging from parodies to wild experiments. Marbles is now best known for creating peaceful videos with her menagerie of greyhound puppies.

Why is she leaving YouTube? On Thursday, June 25, Marbles came out with an 11-minute video explaining why she privatized her old content and reviewed several videos that viewers found offensive. Those uploads included her parody of rapper Nicki Minaj, a verse rap where she appeared to make fun of Asian languages and bombastic pranks, among other videos.

Expressing her heartfelt remorse for these old videos, Marbles said she would backtrack endlessly from her channel, leaving fans and critics alike shocked by the news. While many are outraged that controversial YouTubers like Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson remain on the site, others think Marbles made the right move.

What do you think of the situation? Do you think Jenna Marbles made the right decision to take a step back, or do you feel the appeals to social media stars have gone too far?

Doctor Disrespect banned from Twitch

streamer

Doctor Who? Dr Disrespect is a big name on Twitch, boasting over 4,5 million followers on the platform for his humorous character as a "two-time video game champion." It is acclaimed for its humorous "violence, speed and momentum" and super-powered special effects.

What is the story? Viewers around the world were shocked to find that Doc received a ban from Twitch on June 26, with no explanation at the time of his suspension. Sources later claimed the two-time ban was permanent, according to esports insider Rod 'Slasher' Breslau via Twitter.

While sources are still unsure of the reasons for his ban at the time of writing, this is not the first time Doc has been banned from Twitch, as he was temporarily suspended in the summer of 2019 after streaming in multiple bathrooms at E3. His wife also spoke a few hours after the news came out, thanking his fans - the Champions Club - for their “love” and “kindness”.

From huge streaming platforms to content creators being called to participate in past drama, this week has been a hurricane of news from all over. What do you think of all this? Let us know in the comments below!
