John Carmack on sales and success of Oculus GO
'My expectations paid off with a vengeance'
If you're wondering if the Oculus GO standalone headset is meeting expectations, John Carmack has a clear answer.
One of the founding fathers said that he was the "most optimistic" member of Oculus and he had no doubts about Go's chances before launch, in fact, they even managed to surpass them. John added that user retention was "as good as the Oculus Rift", which he said was very cool.
Oculus hasn't shared official sales figures for the Go. The headset has always been designed to be an affordable device that would appeal to as many people as possible.
Covering demographics, Carmack noted that Go users tend to be slightly older. To his surprise, the device performed well in Japan. The 64GB version of the device also appears to be the more popular of the two (the other being the 32GB version).
Go launched back in May for $199. This is a standalone VR headset, meaning everything you need to jump into VR is built inside the device.
