In addition, Waypoint reporter Patrick Klepek shared that he also heard backstage that the ESA was "checking the E3 status statement with various publishers and vendors after the emergency meeting."
While all signs seem to point to an official announcement coming soon, there is currently no indication as to whether there will be an alternative to this event in 2020.
Following in the footsteps of Nintendo and its live streams, as well as Sony and its State of Play streams, publishers can look forward to hosting select conferences digitally via YouTube and Twitch. However, given the coronavirus concerns in Los Angeles, it's likely that these presentations remain strictly digital.
As we get closer to the start of a new generation of consoles for Microsoft and Sony, E3 would likely be a major reveal, as it has been in past generations.
