Epic Announces Disabling Legacy Aim Assist in Fortnite on Consoles

Epic have announced that aim assist will be removed from Fortnite, which could spell an unexpected end for all L2 spammers.

Aim assist has always been one of the hottest topics of debate among Fortnite players, and with the arrival of Season XNUMX, players soon discovered that you could use Legacy's crosshair settings to find and block players even when they were behind cover.

While the goal debate has been contentious, there are always two sides to every argument: the controller players claimed they needed aiming assistance to keep up with the mouse and keyboard, while the latter side was visibly upset by the seemingly egregious breaking walls.

Fans were pretty sure Epic would keep their hands off the aim assist for fear of upsetting the controller community, which could be as big as the gaming mouse and keyboard demographics.

However, on March 6, Epic announced that Legacy Auxiliary Scopes will be removed from Fortnite starting March 13, leaving players currently using the setting with no choice but to switch to linear or exponential.

Most professional Fortnite players using controllers use linear aim assist, but some still prefer the L2 spam strategy popular in Legacy, such as NRG pro "Unknown".

In fact, Unknown himself played a big role in the L2 debate, as he was one of the first pros to demonstrate how to track players while they were supposed to be invisible.

The problems with Legacy are not new; at this point, players have been spamming L2 for almost a year, and non-controller players have been complaining about it for almost as long.

It's unclear why Epic decided to make the changes now, but they won't leave Legacy players completely in the cold once the update goes live.

Those currently using Legacy aim Assist will be able to copy their settings and sensitivity, but it certainly won't feel the same for users who have made it an integral part of their play style.

Whether this is a sign of things to come remains to be seen: "Hover Assist" is definitely losing some players in the wrong direction, but insists it's necessary to keep controller players competitive at the highest levels to some extent.
