Fortnite Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X with New Engine
Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will be coming to next-gen consoles at launch as the title transitions from Unreal Engine 4 to 5 in 2021.
В your blog on the Epic Games website, the team laid out some plans for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The big question on everyone's mind is how this will affect account development and purchased items. The good news is that there is nothing to worry about.
“We plan to support cross-progression across console generations and platforms to carry over your account, progress, and items,” the group said in a statement.
In addition, the game will still support cross-play between systems, so PS5 owners will still be able to play with and against PC and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile players, and vice versa.
While the game is out on next-gen consoles, the team says they will continue to support the game on existing platforms, so even if you don't get a PS5 or a new Xbox at launch, Fortnite will stay the same for you.
However, what's really interesting is how the game will take advantage of the new hardware, which Epic says will happen soon and they'll share more information.
“While we cannot share details at this time, more powerful hardware will enable us to improve performance and visual experience,” they announced. "At launch, the version of Fortnite we're bringing to next-gen consoles will be built on Unreal Engine 4. We'll move Fortnite to Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021."
For those looking forward to a new batch of consoles, the fact that Fortnite will be available immediately is certainly good news for fans of the game who are looking for something familiar.
Of course, both PS5 and Xbox Series X will be backward compatible, so while this news may not be too surprising, especially considering all the platforms that Fortnite is already running on, it's reassuring that Epic is ready for updated systems.
