Witch Guide for Minecraft 1.18

Witch  Minecraft is a hostile mob that attacks the player with exploding potions with various negative effects. In the early game, the Witch is one of the most dangerous opponents, as she is able to regenerate health with potions and deal serious damage during combat. Upon death, leaves behind several valuable potion ingredients.

Where does the witch appear in Minecraft?

natural appearance

Spawns singly in the overworld when light level is 7 or below, or when lightning strikes near a villager within a radius of less than 5 blocks. Spawns in all biomes except Mushroom Fields.

Frequency of occurrence

They spawn along with other hostile mobs with a spawn rate of 5.

In a hut in the swamp

During world generation, a witch with a black cat appears in each hut. The cat never disappears. And the witch despawns only on the condition that she did not appear during the generation of the world. The witches spawn in the 7x7x9 area, which is the hut. This is the size of the roof and from one level below the floor of the hut to two blocks above the roof.

In Bedrock Edition

Witches only respawn on one block in the swamp hut.

People

When lightning strikes within a radius of less than 5 blocks near a villager (whether small or adult), he turns into a witch.

Raids

Witches can appear from the third wave of the raid.

Witch Behavior in Minecraft

Although witches look like villagers, they cannot open doors or use dwellings. When attacking, use explosive potions of the first level. Notice the player within a radius of 16 blocks.

Attack

Drops potions at 2 second intervals.

  1. Throw an Explosive Potion of Slowness if the player is at least 8 blocks away and does not already have the Slow effect. This effect lasts a maximum of 1 minute 30 seconds.
  2. Throw an explosive poison potion if the player is at least 8 health (heart.svgheart.svgheart.svgheart.svg) and it doesn't have that effect yet. This effect lasts no more than 45 seconds.
  3. Has a 25% chance to drop an explosive slowness potion if the player is within 3 blocks and doesn't already have this effect. This effect lasts a maximum of 1 minute 30 seconds.
  4. If none of the previous conditions are met, the witches drop an instant damage potion that deals 6 (heart.svgheart.svgheart.svg) damage.
  5. Throw an Explosive Potion of Weakness if the player is within 3 blocks and doesn't already have this effect.

DEF

Once every 0,05 seconds (1 tick), when the witch is not yet drinking a potion, she can choose a potion. Drinking a potion takes 1,6 seconds and slows down walking speed. Does not attack at this time.

  1. When underwater, the chance to drink a Potion of Underwater Breathing becomes 15%, if not already. The effect lasts for a maximum of 3 minutes.
  2. When on fire, or when the last damage within the last 2 seconds was from fire, the chance to drink a fire resistance potion becomes 15%, if this effect is not already there. The effect lasts for a maximum of 3 minutes. This allows you to get it before the first acquaintance with ifrit, as a result of which it becomes much easier to chop the rods for subsequent potion brewing (just set fire to the witch, and when you hit the bottle, quickly kill it).
  3. If she takes damage, she has a 5% chance to drink an Instant Healing Potion and restores 4 (heart.svgheart.svg)
  4. When the target is more than 11 blocks away, there is a 50% chance to drink a Potion of Swiftness. The effect lasts no more than 3 minutes.

Witches are 85% resistant to certain types of magical damage, including poison, instant damage, summoner's fangs, and the Thorns enchantment.

Raids

Can spawn during a raid and heal those below 11 health (heart.svg × 5.5) with explosive regeneration potions (45 seconds) and instant healing.

If the raid kills all the inhabitants, the witches celebrate their victory: they jump and emit a characteristic laugh.

In Bedrock Edition

Witches are resistant to poison and instant damage potions. They can determine the position of the target, even if it is behind the blocks. Hostile to iron golems.

These are the only mobs that fight the ghasts when they are hit with fireballs. Can be attacked by hostile mobs if provoked using explosive potions of poison, slow, weakness, or damage.

During the raid, they appear on the 4th wave.

Particles

Witches rarely (with a 1,5% chance per second) spawn between 10 and 45 purple magic particles above their heads.

Drop. What does a witch drop in Minecraft?

Each level of the Loot enchantment increases the maximum number of items dropped on kill from 5 to 15. Without the enchantment, 2 items are dropped on kill. When enchanted "Loot I" drops an average of 3 drops, "Loot II" - 4, "Loot III" - 5.

5 drop out of them. when they are killed by the player or the dog.

Actually, drop:

  • Stick (0-6)
  • Spider Eye (0-6)
  • Glowstone Dust (0-6)
  • Gunpowder (0-6)
  • Sugar (0-6)
  • Red Dust (0-6)
  • Flask (0-6)
  • Healing Potion (if killed while drinking it)
  • Fire resistance potion (if killed while drinking it)
  • Haste Potion (if killed while drinking it)
  • Potion of Underwater Breathing (if killed while drinking it)

Interesting Facts

  • Witches drop more item types than any other mob.
  • The Witch is one of the two mobs that is not a boss and at the same time is able to restore its own health on its own. The second mob is a horse.
  • Before version 1.8, the texture of the witch in the game files was in the folder with the textures of the villagers.
  • Even though before version 1.7.2 the witch only appeared in the hut, she could also spawn in other natural structures (for example, in the desert temple) if they were located on the border of the swamp biome.
  • The witch does not burn in lava and does not sink in water.
  • The witch's nose moves.
  • If a witch hits another witch with a potion, they will start a shootout with each other. However, this can last indefinitely, as they will have time to restore their health. Also, the witch is distracted from the player if she is attacked by another witch.‌[only for Bedrock Edition]
  • In version 1.7.2, the witch's hat could move. This feature has now been removed.
  • Since version 1.14, he has been participating in raids on villages.
  • Since 1.14, during a raid, they throw regeneration potions at their allies.
  • The images of the witch and her hut are based on the folklore character Baba Yaga.
