Guide to Elden Ring status effects and how to remove them
Elden Ring status effects are various effects that affect the player status indicator in the game. Read on to learn more about what each status effect does and how you can cure them.
All Elden Ring status effects
All state effects in Elden Ring are the result of an accumulation of attacks that have the indicated effect. Once the effect meter is full, the status will be applied to either the player character or the enemy.
Effect | Description |
---|---|
Poison (Poison) | Once the meter is full, you will take slow continuous damage over a period of time. |
Red rot | Once the meter is full, you will receive damage over a period of time. |
Hemorrhage | You will bleed and take a lot of damage relative to your Max HP |
Frostbite | You will take damage and become frostbitten for a while. While Frostbite, you will take increased damage from other sources |
Sleep | You will be drowsy until the gauge fills up, which will then put you to sleep. Weaker characters will instantly fall asleep |
Madness | Like Frenzy from previous Souls games, you will go crazy and lose a lot of both HP and FP. |
Death | After you are hit with the Death status, you will die and must be resurrected in the Place of Grace. |
The difference between red rot and poisoning
While Red Rot and Poison may seem the same at first glance, Rot seems to be a stronger version of Poison, similar to how Poison and Toxic worked in previous Souls games. This is just a guess at the moment and will be updated as soon as we figure it out.
How to Apply Elden Ring Status Effects
Fill the ailment meter to full
All status ailments will show an indicator that must be filled in order to demonstrate its effect on the target. This applies to both enemies and your character, and once the gauge is full, the disease will be applied. Some diseases, such as poison, will have a slowly decreasing rate until it is completely depleted, hence ending the effect, while other diseases will completely disappear after a leak, like a hemorrhage. Diseases with a gradual effect have the advantage that they cannot be applied to you again while the effect is active, while diseases that resolve instantly can be applied to the target again.
Each ailment is applied differently.
In previous Souls games, certain weapons have the ability to apply a specific affliction to both enemies and themselves. There will also be hazards that can inflict an affliction on the player and enemies if they stay in contact with it for a long period of time. We'll update this section again to get more information on the application of each status affliction known after the game's release, so stay tuned!
