Guilds Overwatch? Players Excited About Russian Sources Leak
The Guild clan system in Overwatch could be coming soon if the recent Russian PTR leak is correct.
The August 12th update to the PTR (the name of the DNS resource record that links the hostname to the canonical hostname) brought a number of custom changes to the game, including new browser tabs for Most Popular, Recently Played, and Favorites. While this is very good news for players who are into custom games, the Russian version of PTR has intrigued fans with another feature.
As users on Reddit noticed, the "overview" tab in the Russian version of PTR has been replaced with "guilds".
It's no secret that Overwatch's developers have taken an interest in the idea of a clan system, and evidence of this was even leaked during the BlizzCon 2021 Overwatch 2 presentation.
In a blog post on Blizzard's website, showing off Overwatch 2's ability trees, a screenshot showed "Clan C9" right next to the gamertag - a feature that doesn't exist in the current version of Overwatch.
Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting news and whether the feature will ever arrive before Overwatch 2. This new PTR leak may be exactly what they've been waiting for.
Unfortunately, since the guild/clan system hasn't been officially announced, it's hard to say if the ability to sort players into guilds will arrive before the release of Overwatch 2, and it could still be a work in progress. Hopefully we get an official reveal soon, especially if the clan system could eventually lead to a tournament or team queue system.
