GoDz: 75% of Teams in Southeast Asia May Be Involved in Bogus Matches

BeyondTheSummit commentator David GoDz Parker commented on a question regarding matchmaking and match fixing in Dota 2.

“Just recently, one team was banned for participating in a fake match. At that time, they didn’t pay much attention to this, because there was a topic about sexual harassment in eSports.

There is such a dnm player, he is 16 or 17 years old. He is in the top 10 MMR leaders and played with the PlusOne team at the BTS Pro Series. Then this team was with a clean reputation, we could not even guess that they were doing this. There was a match that the players wanted to merge. They died on purpose, one player left the game and “could not” reconnect. Back then, dnm didn't know anything about it, and PlusOne was leading the game simply because dnm played Troll Warlord and pulled as hard as he could. After two of his allies had already disconnected, the game ended 3x5 - dnm managed the teammates to win the match his team wanted to merge.

The next day, his representative wrote to me that he wants to complain about his teammates. We received evidence of the leak, including screenshots of the conversations. We sent this to Valve and disqualified the team. More precisely, the three players who leaked the match, two more did not participate in this.

I believe 322 is a lot more common in Dota 2 than people realize. It is said that 75% of the teams in Southeast Asia are involved in fake matches. I don’t really agree with this number, but a representative of a betting company that deals with e-sports told me about this.”, - the editors of the portal convey the words of the commentator Metaratings.

It is worth noting that this topic did not arise from scratch. For example, it is worth paying attention to a couple of situations:

  • ➤322 is a gaming meme, the dollar amount that Alexey Solo Berezin won at a Dota 2 tournament in 2013 when he made a bet against his team. He subsequently did not receive a win, and for a specially lost match he was disqualified for a year.
  • In October, Yellow Submarine team manager Dmitry Korb3n Belov shared a screenshot in which one of the players of his roster was offered 1 million rubles for an intentional loss against NaVi.

You can also remember the moment when several betting companies closed the lines for the ESL One Germany 2020 match, in which Cyber Legacy lost to ViKin.gg.
