GTA V VR Mod Lets You Play Without Vorpx But Makes You Nauseous
Grand Theft Auto V VR is probably one of the most requested VR ports we've seen in the past few years.
There is one real mod that lets you play Rockstar classics with a VR headset, but you'll need a driver Vorpx VR. It costs about $35. Launched over the weekend, the new mod takes another leap forward by allowing you to play the game without this software. This is not the first add-on, but one of the easiest to install.
Modder LukeRoss, who released a VR mod last year No One Lives Forever 2is behind it. After a fairly simple installation process, you can jump into GTA V in VR using a standard gamepad. I couldn't shoot a video because the frames shift the position of the characters and objects, making them blurry.
It's incredible to be behind the wheel of a car and metadically shoot enemies with a pistol while driving. Los Santos is one of the best realized locations in gaming and this translates very well into VR. I was particularly amused by the fact that when I was distracted from driving to turn my head to the side, situations close to a mass accident arose immediately on the road.
At times, GTA V is interrupted by cutscenes that quickly give VR headaches. The camera zooms in close and makes it impossible to see what's going on. I just had to close my eyes while broadcasting those moments. Precise aiming, meanwhile, requires the camera to zoom in on the action, which feels tough.
This mod is strictly for having fun in the game's sandbox and not trying to solve the story. But even here, the forced exit animation left me with an uncomfortable feeling of dizziness after about 45 minutes of playing.
It's a wonderful attempt, and probably quite enjoyable for iron-bellied VR masochists. Personally, I will continue to hold on once GTA V gets actual official VR support. If it could happen in Los Angeles, then who knows?
