Half-Life 3, Steam Deck and VR consoles – Famous YouTuber spoke about Valve developments
Renowned YouTuber Tyler McVicker has released a new video discussing the current state of Half-Life and Valve in general:
Most Valve employees have lost interest in virtual reality. Facebook won the competition by gathering all the good VR developers and selling Quest 2 at a low price. As a result, there have been several adjustments to internal initiatives. Steam Deck is currently their main focus, not VR.
Project Citadel is no longer a PCxVR game. The Deck developers are currently building this shooter/RTS hybrid set in the Half-Life universe as a showcase for Deck's capabilities as a result of their success. Since the game has a large team working on it, it will be completed and released within the next two years.
While the new Half-Life VR is still in development, there are signs that it will be canceled: lack of interest in VR, a small team (most Half-Life: Alyx developers work on Steam Deck), and a stage project prototype with no specific story.
A new standalone wireless VR headset is in the works, but it won't be available for many years. Again, Valve has lost interest in the VR industry; most employees do not want to work with technology; some employees left the firm to work on other VR projects; and this headset is no longer a priority for Valve. Overall, this headset has a 50/50 chance of survival.
Half-Life 3 is being developed, but by a small group of people. The release of the game may be delayed.
