Although Half-Life: Alyx, may not have made many lists of the best games of 2020 due to its niche accessibility, it was still a major step forward in the VR space. Valve's history of pushing technology into its games has been repeated. It's only a matter of time before Half-Life: Alyx's VR technology and the ideas behind it spread. The technology of interacting with objects with hands is a step forward. While VR controllers allow 1:1 movement in a VR space, the actual interactivity in a VR game depends on the individual technology. Valve has developed two different core features. The first one makes players' hands interact with physics-based in-game items. The second, called gravity gloves, allows players to pick up objects from a distance.
These two functions, combined and implemented in Skyrim VR , got the name HIGGS VR by modder FlyingParticle. The first focus of the mod is hand interaction, and the first main feature is to implement collision with the player's hands so they can knock things off tables. In addition, both hands can be used to pick up and throw objects, while the objects are actually shown being held in the player character's hand. They can then also be placed in the player's inventory by slung over the shoulder.
