However, instead of another traditional third-person experience, Horizon Call of the Mountain being built from the ground up for the next generation of VR hardware. With an all-new main character, all-new gameplay options, and stunning visuals, there's a lot to look forward to.

While it's still early days, here's a full breakdown of everything there is to know about Horizon Call of the Mountain.

Does Horizon Call of the Mountain have a release date?

At the moment, Horizon Call of the Mountain does not have a clear release date.

While it's not clear exactly when the upcoming game could release, we can make an educated guess based on some of Sony's recent statements.

We know for a fact that PS VR2 is targeting "more than 20 major first and third party games" at launch. As a result, it's pretty obvious that Horizon Call of the Mountain will be on this list as arguably the biggest first wave release to make the jump to VR.

While nothing has been officially announced yet, expect to see a Horizon Call of the Mountain launch day and date with PS VR2 in the near future.

Is Horizon Call of the Mountain exclusive to PS VR2?

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it looks like Horizon Call of the Mountain will launch exclusively on PS VR2.

PS VR2 will launch with a bang, and Horizon Call of the Mountain could help once released.

Built specifically for Sony's new hardware, with all the marketing tied directly to the new VR system, it seems almost certain that the new Horizon experience will debut on PS VR2. As for what happens after launch, one can only guess.

It's worth bearing in mind that Horizon Zero Dawn, the first entry in the series, will reach PC in 2020, three years after its original launch on PS4. So there's a good chance we'll see Call of the Mountain on various other VR platforms in the coming years. But at the moment, nothing has been confirmed other than PS VR2.

The very first teaser for Horizon Call of the Mountain appeared on January 5th, providing just a brief 15-second look at the game in action.

Then we saw almost 90 seconds of gameplay during the Sony State of Play broadcast on June 2.

Call of the Mountain storyline

For the first time in franchise history, players will take on the role of a new protagonist in Horizon Call of the Mountain. While Aloy's appearance in the story is confirmed, we'll be experiencing the story "through the eyes of a brand new character" known as Raias.

As a former Shadow Warrior of Karya, Raias excels at rock climbing and archery, both of which will come in handy as he tries to unravel the mystery behind a brand new threat.

In the first gameplay trailer for Call of the Mountain, players literally travel through mountains and wilderness, encountering a range of new friends, enemies, and mechanical beasts on the rise.

Horizon Call of the Mountain gameplay details

After a brief snippet during its reveal, Call of the Mountain received a full gameplay breakdown during the June 2 Sony State of Play event. Now we know for sure that the VR experience involves a combination of passing and combat.

From an immersive first-person perspective, players can wield a variety of tools and weapons to climb up and destroy a range of fearsome machines. While it doesn't feel like a huge open world like its mainstream counterparts, Call of the Mountain will apparently push you through a number of large environments.

Call of the Mountain puts players directly into the action by having you hold and control your bow by hand.

Familiar enemies like the Watchers and even the Thunderjaws are all set to be featured everywhere.

Along with the main storyline, Call of the Mountain will also include a standalone "River Ride experience" revealed by the developers. This seemingly tranquil mode allows players to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of Horizon through a piece of gameplay.
