Riot Games has released a preview of the VFX updates coming with League of Legends Update 10.18 for champions like Nocturne and Malzahar, Ignite summoner spells, and more.

With 150 playable champions in the current League of Legends roster, there are still old champions that haven't had major reworks or visual updates in some time.

Riot developers have been returning to some classic characters in recent months, even releasing complete visual overhauls and gameplay overhauls for champions like Volibear and Fiddlesticks.

However, a complete ability overhaul isn't necessarily required for every champion, and the League of Legends Dev Team has revealed that visuals for three characters and summoner spells will be updated soon.

Visual Effects Supervisor, Riot Beardilocks, shared on August 20 fasting on Reddit, which outlined many of the upcoming changes and revealed that they will soon be added to the League Public Beta Environment (PBE) ahead of their release in patch 10.18.

Full visual updates have been confirmed for Nocturne, Victor, and Malzahar, with character and ability models updated for their base style as well as for each of their skins. You can check out an early overview of these changes below:

While the League development team hasn't deviated too much from how these champions originally looked, this visual update gives them a fresher look than current in-game versions.

As Riot developer Sirhayan, who worked on Malzahar's rework, explained, the reason for some of these updates was to bring them up to "today's quality standards" and "improve gameplay clarity."

Along with the champion updates, the Ignite summoner spell will also change in patch 10.18. Riot shared their early take on the new visuals for this spell, which make it much more prominent than the current version.

League of Legends players will be able to try out each of these changes for themselves, and the updates should appear on the PBE League of Legends before their full release on September 2, in the 10.18 update.
