In connection with the broadcast Fortnite Economy 2.0, the community is wondering "Who can make money from Fortnite Creative 2.0?" While the method by which content creators make money in the game hasn't changed drastically, it's bound to have an impact on island creators.
In Creator Economy 1.0, the Support-A-Creator device was the only way to generate income in the game. After a recent update, this has been removed, with the introduction of the new system. In Economy 2.0, payouts will be based on player engagement.
Epic Games is returning to its roots as an affiliate marketing program. Payouts (40% held in a creator reserve) will be given to island creators based on the popularity and retention of their cards. However, everything is now based on metrics and traffic.
Fortnite Creative 2.0 will allow creators to earn income based on certain parameters
With Creator Economy 2.0, island creators are no longer at the mercy of their SAC. While many creators will see this as a bad move, Epic Games sees things differently. With the removal of the SAC device from the creator islands, the experience can now be focused on gameplay and fun, they said.
This will allow creators to focus on creativity rather than monetization. However, this does not mean that the code Support-A-Creator island creator is invalid. They can still be used in the Merchandise Store, with a percentage of the income going to them as payouts.
However, with SAC Devices no longer available on Creator Islands, metrics-based payouts will become the new normal. This is based on the fact that the visibility of SAC codes will be extremely low and limited by social media platforms. On that note, here are two parameters that island creators will need to keep in mind in order to generate income:
- Player Popularity
- Player retention
"Player Popularity" will take into account two factors: attracting new players and re-attracting losing players. In short, the more new players that visit Creator Island, the better. In addition, the number of returning players will also contribute to this parameter.
On the other hand, "Player Retention" will take into account how often players return to Creator Island. This is based on daily and weekly interactions. The more often players return, the better the indicator of convincing and consistent gameplay.
While these two parameters/metrics will be used as the basis for payouts to island creators, Epic Games mentions that this is subject to change. Over time, "tracking metrics" will change based on creator and player feedback.
Finally, the amount of income that creators can earn will be based on a distribution system or "prize fund". Real money spent on Fortnite, V-Bucks purchases, real money transactions and Crew subscriptions will contribute 40% net income that was deferred.
Based on individual performance and Fortnite's total monthly income (40% held in reserve), each island creator will earn a percentage of that pool. However, it remains to be seen how this works out in the long run.

Engagement-based payouts are currently available to legal entities (companies) and island creators (18 years and older). In both cases, the Fortnite account used must be over 90 days old. Those who do not meet any of the criteria will be considered ineligible. Fortunately, there is good news as well.
Epic Games is working to expand the program to young creators as well. Since several island creators in the ecosystem are teenagers, limiting monetization would be harmful and downright humiliating. Hopefully an agreement can be reached where these island creators can take advantage of the Creator Economy 2.0, possibly with parental supervision if needed.
