How to Play Fallout 76 Beginner's Guide

Fallout 76
There is so much to do in Appalachia that a beginner may well get confused, not knowing where to start.
Don't worry, in this detailed guide, we'll tell you everything you need to know about Fallout 76's three game modes, as well as helpful tips to help you get started. During trial week , which is already underway and will last until June 17, you will be able to launch Fallout 76 and play in three modes: Adventure, Survival, as well as in early access to the prebeta Nuclear Winter. In this guide, we will cover all of them. And for more information on how to play Nuclear Winter after the trial week ends, keep an eye on Fallout.com.

ADVENTURE MODE

Adventure Mode is the very first, main mode in Fallout 76. After leaving Vault 76, you will go to explore and revive the wonderful and crazy world of West Virginia, where all the people around you are other players (at least until the release of the update wastelanders this year). To survive, team up with other players or go it alone. Create your character using the SPECIAL system and set off on a journey across the unexplored wild Wasteland with hundreds of locations.

LET'S RESTORE AMERICA TOGETHER!

You can always wander alone, but you have many opportunities to team up with other players you meet in the game world. Alone in the field is not a warrior, and companions will help you hold out if you run into other, not so friendly survivors. You can find a company before you enter the game, or make friends with the players you meet in the world and join their team on the go.
  • COUNCIL: Companions, like Vault 76 or your own CAMP platform, can always be free fast traveled. If you want to save a couple of caps, ask one of the team members to go to the right place for a small fee and just move to him as soon as he is in place.
  • ANOTHER ADVICE: Even if you're not on a team, other players on the map can still be of service to you. By visiting another player's CAMP, you can use their vending machine and buy yourself something useful.

    FRIEND OR ENEMY?

Every person you meet can be your best friend...or your worst enemy. If he opens fire on you, and you decide to fight him, then return fire, and may the strongest win. If you are peaceful, then just do not pay attention to the offender. If you do not respond to a player's attack, then you have no hostile intent, and therefore you will not take damage from that player's attacks.

STYLISH Dwellings

The latest construction-aggregate mobile platform (CAMP) allows you to build houses and create objects anywhere in the world. CAMP will provide you with vital shelter, help to prepare supplies and organize protection. You can even open a shop and trade with other survivors. But be careful: not all residents are so peaceful.
  • COUNCIL: You can always fast travel to Vault 76 and your CAMP platform. And for just a few caps, you can move your CAMP around the map as you explore the world. If you don't want to rebuild your house, simply create a blueprint of your platform and save it for future relocations.

SPECIAL SYSTEM

Fallout 76 is the first multiplayer game in the series, but overall it's very similar to other Fallout games. Take advantage of the updated SPECIAL system and create a character that fits your playstyle perfectly. And new ability cards will help you pick the right skills depending on the situation.
  • COUNCIL: don't be lazy - share! Players who have invested at least 3 SPECIAL points in the development of charisma can share their ability cards with team members.

THE POWER OF THE ATOM

Alone or with friends, take control of the most powerful weapon in the game - nuclear missiles. At the site of their explosion, among other things, there will be a high-level area with a bunch of valuable and rare resources. Are you for a peaceful atom or for an atom against the world? You decide.

  • COUNCIL: It is not at all necessary to collect all the parts of the nuclear code alone to launch missiles. You can share them with other players or collect nuclear code with your friends!
  • ANOTHER ADVICE: Choose your bombing areas wisely to get the most experience and the most valuable items. Dropping a bomb at a high-level enemy spawn like the Scorchbeast Queen is a sure way to get some great loot. But be careful when entering bombing sites - if you're not properly prepared, the radiation will quickly knock you out. Don't forget power armor!

POWER ARMOR: INTO THE BATTLE WITH NEW FORCES

Fallout without power armor is not Fallout. Power armor can be found anywhere in the Wasteland. Once you reach level 15, you will be able to enter Power Armor as soon as you find its frame. Once you have obtained a set of power armor, it becomes yours and other players cannot steal it or enter it.

  • COUNCIL: Power Armor is powered by nukes, which can also be found anywhere in the world. If the nuclear unit is depleted and you do not have a spare, you can simply exit the armor, and soon you will have it in your equipment.

SURVIVE THE FITTED

Hunger and thirst can play tricks on unprepared adventurers. When you travel, be sure to stock up on clean water and cooked food. Consuming spoiled food and dirty water can lead to disease or parasite infestation, which can have negative consequences.
  • COUNCIL: To prevent the collected food from spoiling so quickly, make a halt near the cooking station and cook them. At these points, you can also safely boil water and prepare dishes according to new recipes found during your travels. Recipes (as well as blueprints for items for CAMP) are stored in your equipment, on the "Notes" tab. To learn a recipe or blueprint, just read it!
Food and drink aren't the only source of disease and parasites that can catch you off guard. Sleeping in a dirty bed also increases the risk of getting sick. It is safest to sleep in a clean bed installed on your personal CAMP platform
  • COUNCIL: After a good night's sleep in a clean bed, you will receive the Invigorating Boost effect, which will increase your experience gain for a short time.

SURVIVAL MODE

Survival Mode is very similar to Adventure Mode, however it's a bit more... intense. In this mode, you will find risky skirmishes between players, where there are fewer restrictions and more rewards, as well as new challenges that are added to all the usual dangers of the Adventure mode. In addition, here you have a chance to get into the leaderboards.
Survival mode has more competition, changed the rules of battles between players, the mechanics of death and respawn, and there is also a 20% increase in the experience that players earn during the game. The higher the risk, the greater the reward. All progress for any existing character can always be transferred from one mode to another. This also applies to equipment, cosmetic items, SPECIAL stats, and ability cards.

WHAT'S GOING DANGER?

In survival mode, the likelihood that other players you meet will want to fight you increases significantly, and pretending to be a pacifist will no longer work. As in adventure mode, you can explore the world, collect loot and complete tasks, but there are no restrictions when attacking other players. You can no longer refuse to fight, but if you win, you will receive twice as many caps as in adventure mode. After the death of the enemy, you can pick up all his trash, as well as a random amount of drugs that he had with him.
  • COUNCIL: Leave all your junk in the supply area so you don't lose it if you die! Returning often to your CAMP and supply storage is by no means a bad plan, especially in survival mode.
In adventure mode, the other players are always displayed on your map (unless you are wanted), but in survival mode, things are a little different. Here, only wanted players or one of the first three players on the Longest Life leaderboard are displayed on the map. So if you are going hunting, you will have to work hard.
  • COUNCIL: If you lose a fight with another player, you may notice that the "Seek Vengeance" respawn option from Adventure Mode no longer appears. But you can spend some caps and put a bounty on your killer's head by putting him on the wanted list. After that, all other players will immediately see it.
Details can be found in survival mode review.

NUCLEAR WINTER

A powerful nuclear bombardment caused a violent radioactive storm to erupt in Appalachia, and you are right in the middle of it. This is where the plot of the new Fallout 76 PvP mode for 52 people begins - Nuclear Winter. This mode combines the competitive all-against-all style of play with unique Fallout mechanics, from power armor and ability cards to CAMP and Wastelanders.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT IN THIS MODE?

Unlike adventure and survival modes that focus on exploring the world, Fallout's competitive spirit comes to the fore in Nuclear Winter, which is raised to the 76th power here. You will spawn at your chosen location on the map and collect weapons, supplies, and bombs while fighting other overseers in Vault 51 along the way. Team up with up to three other players and fight to be the only team left standing.
  • COUNCIL: choose the place where you first appear, you need to be wise. Choose sparsely populated areas, otherwise you will be immediately noticed, and conflict will not be avoided. It is better to prepare a little first and find yourself some equipment. But even after that, you should not rush headlong into battle. Look for advantages and run if you find yourself outnumbered.
  • ANOTHER ADVICE: It's probably obvious, but Nuclear Winter is a game where teamwork and communication is essential. Keep up with your teammates and cover each other. If a follower is severely wounded, you will have the opportunity to use a stimulator to restore him to his feet.

Many core game mechanics in Fallout (including your weapons, armor, potions, and more) have been tweaked to better fit the new game mode and map size. You can transfer your character from Adventure Mode to Nuclear Winter Mode, however their level will not affect how much damage you can deal or take. At the beginning of each match, everyone is on an equal footing. During the course of the match, you can increase your damage and strengthen your defense by scouting weapons and armor.
  • COUNCILA: The CAMP platform can greatly help you in combat. You can hide behind her buildings or take a good position at a height to watch the enemy from there or fire. You can build fortifications with workshop items in CAMP, but items like turrets have been changed for PvP. You can find out what has changed in this article..

VATS, ability cards, and SPECIAL stats have also been reworked to ensure a level playing field for everyone. In Nuclear Winter, VATS will only be able to aim at computer-controlled enemies, not other players. In addition, when transferring from other modes, the character will only have the basic SPECIAL parameters and all passive effects will disappear - this is also done in order to equalize the chances. Open Ability Cards will also not be able to be transferred to this mode, as as you play Nuclear Winter, you will unlock Ability Cards from a new special set.
CAMP platforms, Wasteland encounters, loot and nukes have been greatly simplified to better fit the different map size and reduced duration of Nuclear Winter.
