Since your first hits don't land and bounce off the boss, this can be a frustrating encounter for melee characters. Try to hit him as much as you can and leave yourself plenty of time to roll away after that using your strongest hitting weapon, even if it has a slower attack speed.

Use Northern Mercenary's Ashes to help you deal damage, as it hits like a truck and can really cripple this boss's XP.

For users of a magical build or bow, there is a set of specific tips. The troll is slow but hits with big AoEs, so make sure you don't get in range. It's best to use the Shield in one hand and your Catalyst in the other, in case you need to block damage in an emergency, which can happen more than once in this fight.

Lure his attacks and roll back to create distance, giving you time to unleash a series of ranged attacks. If you need a distraction, use Northern Mercenary's Ashes to get his attention and get powerful support.
