How to manage war in Victoria 3
Mobilization
Victoria 3 has a certain way of managing war. While the game allows for a lot of freedom, there is a recommended path that players should take when conquering other states:
- Select the menu "military lens«.
- Go to the "Army«.
- Get option "Activate call centers».
- Select all areas of your state that are adjacent to the state of the enemy.
After your army has been called up, you need to place generals at the helm of your army:
- Select the menu "Commanders«.
- Go to the section "Generals«.
- Select Generalor as many as you wish.
- Confirm by clicking the "Mobilize«.
- Highlight the areas of the corresponding command.
If you don't have any generals yet, you can recruit them from the Military Lens menu.
Fight and peace
While your army is mobilizing, you can watch the reaction of the enemy state in the Diplomatic Play menu. If the caliber reaches the escalation level, then the battle begins.
The screen will say "War has broken out!", and you need to confirm the combat phase by pressing the "To arms!" button. You can keep track of the number of killed and wounded soldiers by hovering over areas that are affected by combat.
If you see that your army is clearly winning, you can start a quick victory by doing the following:
- Select the menu "Review«.
- Go to the "Make peace«.
- Get option "Conclude terms for the White Peace».
If the enemy state rejects your offer to quickly surrender to you, then the war continues until the complete surrender of the enemy state.
In case you see that your army is not doing well and you have not yet received a White Peace offer from the enemy state, but you want to get out of the state of war, then you need to do the following:
- Select the menu "Review«.
- Go to the "Make peace«.
- Get option "Propose a peace agreement».
The enemy state may not accept your peace agreement, in which case you will lose your army. But if the enemy state offers its own deal, then it's probably a good idea to accept it. You can also get an ally!
Other ways to declare war in Victoria 3
If you think that a direct attack on another state does not bring you any benefit, but you still want to start a war, then you can use the following methods:
- Application Theme.
- Release the subject.
- Make Dominion.
- Make a doll.
These are all indirect ways of declaring war on any state and all of these options can be found in the Diplomatic Paths menu.
The difference is that when you declare your intention to conquer a state, a war starts regardless of the relationship between the two states, but if you use the methods listed here, there is no guarantee that a war will start no matter what.
In addition, when declaring these other types of war, you need to consider how it will affect your allies, as shown in the list of country cards. If you see that the consequences of these declarations will negatively affect your side, then it is recommended to refrain from both direct and indirect declarations of war.
