How League Play Works in Black Ops Cold War: Skills, Ranks, Maps, Modes, Rewards, and more.
Treyarch and Activision have finally activated League Play in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and we have everything there is to know about how this new ranked mode works.
It's been a while, but after months of waiting, Call of Duty players can finally enjoy the latest iteration of the ranked mode known as League Play in Black Ops Cold War.
League Play is a classic, fan-favorite mode that has been featured in most CoD games since Black Ops 2. In it, players can face other players who are at or near the same skill level for a chance to climb the leaderboard and earn ranked rewards .
Matches are played on public playlists but follow the official set of competition rules, meaning that the use of many of the game's weapons, attachments, perks, points, and gear is restricted.
League Play events: schedule and how it works
League Play events are essentially periods of time during which you can compete in ranked mode, and then move up or down in ranks after the event ends. There are two LP events every week: Events weekday events run from Monday to Friday, and weekend events run from Friday to Monday.
How well you perform determines how high you climb the division ladder; At the end of each event, your place in the ranking determines how much progress you have earned to advance to the next rank.
Your first LP event will be different as it will start with five selective matches to determine which skill division and ranking you start in.
Divisions and League Skill Ratings
- Master: Top 2%
- Elite: Top 3-10%
- Expert: Top 11-15%
- Advanced: Top 16-20%
- Competitor: 50% players
During each event, winning earns you ranking points, which move you up the ladder of your division, while losing reduces your points and moves you down. Winning multiple matches in a row will activate the Win Streak Bonus, which will help you level up quickly. However, those who are eliminated from LP matches receive "increased" penalties and lose the match.
League rankings and awards
After each LP event in which you are in the skill division ladder, you will earn gems that are necessary to advance to the next rank. There are 30 ranks in total, so there's definitely something to strive for in this ranked mode.
Reaching each "control" rank (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30) unlocks a unique calling card of the League game, of which there are six in total. In addition, getting to the top of the rankings or winning an LP event will increase your ranking in accordance with your success.
“Be in the top 10, top 5, or be the first to permanently upgrade your rank from Bronze to Silver, Silver, Gold, or Gold. Complete the first six times and you will permanently upgrade your rank to Diamond.”
Maps, Modes, Limited Items & League Play Rules
As mentioned above, this rating mode corresponds to the official set of competition rules, used by the Call of Duty League for both Pro and Challenger ranks.
Thus, the maps and modes used in Black Ops Cold War's League Play are the same as in the CDL:
- hardpoint: Mat, Garrison, Crossroads, Raid, Moscow
- Search and destroy: Mat, Garrison, Moscow, Miami, Raid
- Control: Checkmate, Garrison, Raid
In terms of limited items, there are several weapons, attachments, points, equipment, perks that cannot be used in LP matches.
However, LP allows you to use your own classes, weapon camo, and blueprints - though any limited attachments on those blueprints will be removed before the start of each match.
However, for those who don't know enough or don't want to create their own classes, you can use the preset CDLs that were recently added with the weapons and attachments used by pro players.
