Although the game is set to release on May 7, 2021, there is already a lot of information out there about what to expect. One of the important features of the game is the extensive upgrade system, which means that players can increase their firepower in difficult boss battles.
While recent Resident Evil games have put updates on the back burner in an attempt to increase the intensity of Survival Horror gameplay, Village puts more emphasis on building and updating to help you on your journey.

How to upgrade weapons in Resident Evil Village
To upgrade weapons, players will need to earn lei, which is the currency of the village. It can be obtained by killing enemies, which drop money, as well as other valuable items that can be sold.
Once players have enough Lei, they can upgrade their weapons by visiting the weaponsmithing section of The Duke's Emporium, which is the equivalent of the Resident Evil Village's in-game shop.
The Duke is a mysterious character that can be found wandering around at certain points in the game, a bit like the popular arms dealer character from Resident Evil 4, so it's wise to stock up on Lei in preparation.
The following upgrades can be purchased for each weapon:
- Power
- Rate of fire
- Reload rate
- Ammo / magazine size
These upgrades vary in price depending on the weapon in question and the level of upgrade being purchased. Weapon attachments such as a cheek rest can also be purchased to make aiming with a sniper rifle more accurate.
How to earn lei in Resident Evil Village
As we mentioned earlier, if you want to upgrade your weapons in the Village, you first need to earn enough in-game currency, Lei. There are several different methods for doing this, which we'll cover below.
Kill enemies
The main method of earning lei is to kill enemies. Since you will already be doing this as you progress through the game, this is probably the easiest way to get more money.
Enemies often drop Lei when you clear them, but they also drop valuable items that can then be sold to the Duke by visiting the Duke's Purse section of the shop menu.
Trade in hidden treasures
In addition to items dropped by enemies, players can find hidden treasures as they explore the world of Resident Evil Village. They can also be exchanged by visiting the "Duke's Purse" section of the shop menu.
