Dark Smithing Stones (English Somber Smithing Stones) is a material used to enhance special weapons and shields in Elden Ring.

Upgrading special weapons and shields in Elden Ring

As in the case of conventional weapons, to upgrade special weapons and shields that usually drop from powerful bosses or hidden in the depths of dungeons and catacombs, you can use the blacksmith's table (up to +3 level) or the help of master Hugh from the Round Table Fortress.

For his work, the blacksmith will still ask for a certain number of runes. However, unique swords, katanas, axes, bows, and so on cannot be upgraded with ordinary stones - for this you will need special blacksmithing stones of darkness.

Gloom Smithing Stone Levels

Finding these materials is even more difficult than the standard ones, but you won’t need to search for them dozens of pieces, since only one or two stones of the corresponding rarity will be enough to increase the legendary weapon by 1 level. Where are the stones of darkness Elden Ring

There are two main methods of obtaining blacksmithing stones of darkness in Elden Ring. The first is more classic - it consists in finding crystal deposits (they are mainly located in mines and tunnels), searching for chests and destroying various monsters.

The second involves buying materials from some merchants. However, often they only appear in their inventory after you bring them a certain item. Naturally, this method looks more convenient in terms of farming, because at any time you can exchange your runes for the required number of pebbles.

Next, we will consider both of these methods, that is, we will indicate the places where you can buy stones of darkness, as well as the locations where they can be found. However, priority will be given to merchants.

Dark Smithing Stones [1] and [2]

Everything is relatively simple here, since you can buy an unlimited number of these stones from two merchants at once. First, let's talk about the master blacksmith Iji. So, start from the place of grace North Shore of Lake Liurnia and run north to the Ruins of the Royal Domain.

Keep running forward until you reach the illusory wall shown in the above screenshot. Hit her to make her disappear. Right behind it will be a place of grace Road to the estate. On the left, a giant with a book will sit on a stone. It is from him that you can buy any number of blacksmithing stones of darkness [1] and [2] for 2000 and 3000 runes, respectively. You can also purchase these items from the Old Twin Handmaids located in the Round Table Keep. However, in order to do so, you will first need to bring them a Miner's Grim Forging Bell Orb [1]. To find it, head first to the Burnt Ruins located in the Graveyard (see the screenshots below).

Dark Smithing Stones [3] and [4]

We have already noted above that several of these resources can be purchased from the master blacksmith Iji. If you want to buy them in unlimited quantities, then you will have to bring the Miner's Grim Forging Bell Orb [2] to the Twin Old Handmaids.

To find it, travel to the Great Dectus Elevator, and then jump north to the Great Bridge that crosses the forest. There, jump off the cliff to get to Altus Tunnel. An approximate route and entrance to the dungeon are shown in the screenshots below.

After entering the mine, go down the elevator and activate the place of grace. Now go deep into the cave, dealing with all the ordinary opponents or just running past them. Note that here different blacksmith stones fall from some enemies. You can also find several crystal formations with materials.

Your main target is two Crystalians wielding a spear and a round blade. You will need to defeat them in combat. They have a strong defense that needs to be knocked down. After that, there should be no problems with killing them. Having dealt with these bosses, you will immediately receive the desired item. Now take it to the twins to buy Dark Smithing Stones [3] and [4] from them for 4000 and 6000 runes respectively.

Dark Smithing Stones [5] and [6]

In order for the Twin Old Handmaids to start selling these items, you will need to find the Miner's Grim Forging Bell Orb [3]. You can find it near First Temple of Marika, located in the Mountain Peaks of the Giants (northern part of the world).

After reaching this place of grace, jump to the northwest to the frozen lake. Find a corpse near the ruins - inspect it to get the item you need. The screenshots above show the exact location. After that, you will be able to buy Dark Smithing Stones [5] and [6] from the Handmaids for 9000 and 12000 runes, respectively.

If we talk about the search, then the blacksmith stone of darkness [5] can be found in the gorge not far from Inner part of Aeonia. Having reached this place of grace, start running to the northwest to find a passage to the desired location. Get to the very end to a huge crystal. A corpse will lie near it, upon examination of which you will find the material.

It can also be found in the Altus Tunnel, which we talked about above, and knocked out from some of the opponents that live in Nokron, the eternal city.

The Dark Smithing Stone [6] can be found on a corpse sitting on a chair in the middle of the rocks, not far from The first camp on Mount Gelmir. As for finding these materials, we advise you to knock them out from monsters in Nokron and Leindell, the capital of the kingdom. Again, use the interactive world map to search.

Dark Smithing Stone [9]

In order for the Twin Old Handmaids to start selling these items, you will need to find the Miner's Grim Forging Bell Orb [5]. She is also in Ruined Farum Azul. Get to the point shown on the map below and follow the fallen tower to the other side.

Enter the building on the right side and examine the remains lying near the sanctuary. Give the handmaids the item you found, and you can buy Dark Smithing Stones [9] from them for 25000 runes.

You can find this resource near Sacred Tower of Caelida. A little south of this structure there is a small path that runs along the cliff. Follow it down and you will find corpses sitting on chairs. Examine them to find a pebble.

Elden Ring: Every Dragon Stone of Gloom

Dark Dragon Smithing Stone 1

Apparently, they cannot be purchased from merchants, so you will have to look for these materials. Travel to a place of grace Dragon temple altar, located in Ruined Farum Azul. From there, follow the path outside, which will lead you to dangerous guards patrolling the streets, birds, and a huge dragon.

It is not necessary to fight all these monsters, but it will not be easy to bypass them. At a certain point, you will need to climb a large swirling staircase. Before reaching the very top, jump down to the left to the remains of the stone platform below (see the screenshots below). Next, go through the short tunnel and go outside again.

Go past the petrified dragon corpse and turn left after jumping down. Continue down to the white dragon ahead. Behind him will be a stone pavilion, in which you will find the forge stone of the darkness of the ancient dragon.

Dark Dragon Smithing Stone 2

Another dragon stone of darkness can be found in the location Dynasty Mausoleum Center at the Mogvin Palace. In front of the elevator to the boss, there is a group of monsters around the chest. This chest contains the item you need. The exact location is shown in the screenshots below.

It can be found in Elfael, pillar of the holy tree. From the place of grace Chapel go outside and turn right. On the bridge you will see a corpse with the item you need.
