In episode 2 of the anime series Konosuba: Explosion in this Wonderful World, Megumin returns home after school and notices that her sister has caught a black cat-like creature. She takes it from her and brings it to school the next day. The classmates ask about the pet, and Megumin says that it is her acquaintance. Megumin persuades the teacher to leave her friend, and he finally agrees. The teacher announces to the class that they will undergo a "Crimson Demon Augmentation Surge" that will speed up their leveling up.
While the students are fighting the creatures in the forest, a gargoyle attacks them. Bukkorori, chasing the village's beauty, saves them, but the students leave him trapped in a pit after hearing how obsessed he is with her. They then witness a gargoyle attack the village. The adults win with the gargoyle, but Megumin is not interested in their spells. However, the adults destroy the village, but it rebuilds overnight.
