Crossplay Dead by Daylight: Everything You Need to Know
Dead by Daylight continues to be one of the most successful and enduring asymmetrical multiplayer games, launching on almost every platform available and adding more and more content.
With the size of the player base and the evolution of the games, it's no surprise that cross-play is on the table. The opportunity is now available, bringing the entire Dead by Daylight community together. But how does it work?
How does crossplay work in Dead by Daylight?
Crossplay comes with complications and limitations, especially when added to a game that didn't support it before. There are some limitations and unfortunately the mobile version is not supported. However, when the Stadia version comes out, it will be part of the crossplay team. But what about all the little details and possible problems?
It's important to note right away that there are currently no plans to add mouse and keyboard support to the console versions. And if that's a problem for you, it's also important to know that crossplay is optional. If you turn it off, you will only be placed in a matchmaking pool with players on your platform. This is also what will be included if your platform is left behind when a new update arrives, ensuring there are no issues. Likewise, if you have not purchased content that another player has, you will be able to see that content, but you will not be able to use it yourself.
In terms of communication, only PC players will be able to use the in-game chat feature. The developers recommend using the official Discord community for the game to get around this, but otherwise any solution on the player's side will be required. You will also see which platforms players are using through the game's UI, and you will be able to add friends on different platforms using their "DBD ID".
Another big point about Dead by Daylight Cross-play is that while you can add friends and play across platforms, the planned cross-progression feature is still a work in progress. The developers plan to provide details later, but nothing is known yet. However, all reporting tools are implemented on different platforms, so if someone is acting like a jerk, there is no problem to report it to someone.
That's it for crossplay in Dead by Daylight. Are you excited about this new feature? Have you already played with friends on different platforms? Are there any quirks that you think need to be addressed? Let us know what you think!
