Best Fortnite Settings for Console: PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Switch
Fortnite lets you tweak settings to improve everything from performance to graphics quality to aim accuracy. Here are the best settings you can use.
The popular battle royale shooter from Epic Games, Fortnite , has become one of the most played games in the world, with millions of people trying to win the coveted victory royale at the end of every match to showcase their gaming prowess.
As a result, getting the right settings is incredibly important as they can sometimes be the difference between winning and losing. But where can you start? This can be quite difficult.
Every player has different preferences and play style, so we encourage you to play around with the options and see what suits you. But we've rounded up what we think are some of the best settings in Fortnite below.
Video Settings
There aren't many video settings to fiddle with, but a few adjustments here and there can make the difference. For example, increasing the brightness can make it easier to spot enemies when the Island is dark. On the other hand, contrast doesn't really matter.
Motion blur is supposed to give a more realistic look, but for some players it can cause gameplay lag and even dizziness. It's a good idea to turn on Show FPS so you can see if you're playing at the optimal 60fps. Of course, any Color Blind settings are up to the player.
- Brightness: 120
- UI Contrast: 0
- Color blind mode: depends on personal preference
- The power of color blindness: depends on personal preference
- Motion blur: Off
- Show FPS: Incl.
Game settings
One of the biggest changes you can make here is to set the matchmaking region to the region closest to you so that your ping stays as low as possible. Auto can be faster, but this can result in poor communication with gameplay lag, especially during unusual hours.
The Sprint toggle should be off and Sprint should be on by default so you always move as fast as possible. Enabling auto-open doors, disabling "Hold to Change Pickup" and enabling "Press to Search/Interact" will reduce the amount of time you'll be vulnerable when standing still.
If you turn on the auto sorting of consumables to the right, switching weapons will be faster. Finally, all build settings depend on your own play style, but most players prefer to have the "Disable Pre-Editing" option turned on, as pre-editing often results in losing matches.
- Matchmaking: select the region closest to you.
- Toggle Sprint: off
- Sprint by default: Incl.
- Sprint cancels cooldown: off
- Automatic doors: Incl.
- Hold to trade pickup: turned off
- Switch targeting: off
- Mark danger on hover: Incl.
- Automatic weapon selection: off
- Automatic sorting of consumables by right edge: Incl.
- Reset building selection: Incl.
- Disable pre-edit option: Incl.
- Turbo building: included
- Confirm edit on release: Incl.
- Context clues: Incl.
- invert view: down to personal preference
- Invert Air Control: down to personal preference
- Turbo delete in creative mode: Incl.
- Click to search / interact: Incl.
HUD Options
There aren't many settings worth changing here compared to the default settings. Most HUD options such as grid, player health, resources, and control hints are required to play Fortnite.
However, if you really want to clean up the screen clutter, you can turn off some options including loot flow, exclusion channel, network debugging stats, and quest progress as they have no real impact on how well you will perform in the game.
Controller Options
Disabling Vibration and Adaptive Triggers (PS5 only) will help you with aiming, as even slight movements can reduce your accuracy. The "Build Now" option may take some getting used to, but it will allow you to build much faster and defend yourself from enemy fire.
Sensitivity is a matter of personal preference, but we've found that higher than standard sensitivity helps you aim faster. Similarly, reducing the dead zone on the left and right sticks will allow faster response.
- Auto start controller: Incl.
- Build immediately (Builder Pro): Incl.
- Edit hold time: 0,150 seconds
- Vibration: off
- Eye sensitivity: 6 (Normal++)
- Aim sensitivity (ADS): 6 (Normal++)
- Build Mode Sensitivity Multiplier: 1,5x
- Sensitivity multiplier in edit mode: 1,2x
- Use advanced options: off
- Left stick dead zone: 10%
- Dead zone right stick: 10%
- Enable adaptive triggers: turned off
- Use press effect: off
As we said before, choosing settings in any game ultimately comes down to personal preference, but using our recommendations above is a good starting point for any gamer.
Play a few matches with them and you'll be a Fortnite pro in no time!
