The best series of 2022!

A return to Westeros, more from a galaxy far, far away, and life in a Chicago sandwich shop all make this list of some of the best shows this year.

The zombie man takes up a much bigger place in our lives these days than ever before. This is not an exaggeration or a complaint - just a fact! Naturally, this is thanks to the work of hundreds of film companies and studios creating many great shows.

All of this makes it difficult for us to narrow down our list of 2022 Best TV Series nominees, but we've done a great deal of analysis to isolate the really high-quality options. From the most mature Star Wars show to the finale of Saul Goodman's story, this is our pick for the best TV series in 2022.

The best series of 2022!

Andor

Andor is, without any exaggeration, Star Wars that has survived puberty. It's time for a new conscious youth - no cringe heroes a la Jar Jar Binks, scam plot twists (nodding towards the movie "The Rise of Skywalker"), nostalgic resurrections of characters (Boba Fett). Gilroy and the team are bringing the half-dead franchise to life with a grown-up tone - and I hope Disney will draw the right conclusions from the popularity of Andor.

The Andor world is not divided into dark and light at all, but exists between these two poles. The title character at first just wants money and to the last refuses to be an ideological fighter. The mysterious Luten (Stellan Skarsgard, who got the most heartfelt monologues) dreams of the coming uprising and is ready to sacrifice his lives to bring the fire of the galactic revolution closer. Good is not absolute, and evil is not absolute. Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) stands for all good things, but she clearly has her hands dirty too. And the main villains in this series are the strict officer Dedra (Denise Gough) and the neurotic assistant inspector Cyril (Kyle Soller), who stand up for iron fists and are unhappy that many colleagues simply sit out their pants from one salary to another. The Imperials are shown here not as bloodthirsty villains, here they are a gray human mass, which, after the collapse of the regime, will surely chant the mantra “I was just following orders.”

It never looks cheap and has some of the most beautifully filmed Star Wars scenes ever put on camera, as well as claustrophobic portable sections that put you right into the action. The range of styles on display is breathtaking, and standout episodes from directors Suzanne White, Toby Haynes and Benjamin Caron have their own unique look. But they all live up to the high standard of showrunner Tony Gilroy, whose spy thriller fingerprints leave a mark on every frame. Combined with a striking score by Nicholas Britell, it creates something truly special and is an added class on top of a show already layered with such quality.

Andor is our pick for the best series of 2022!

We have our winner! But these were our other 2022 TV series nominees…

You better call Saul

One of the best series that started as a comedy and ended as a drama.

In mid-August, the last episode of the series Better Call Saul, a prequel and at the same time a sequel to another series Breaking Bad, was released. But instead of making the series a holiday for fans with a bunch of fan service (although it is also here, but more accurate and necessary for the plot), the creators made something original that can even become on a par with the original series (or maybe even in what is better for some). Many people even began their acquaintance with the Breaking Bad universe with the Saul series. Some even started watching "Heavy" at all, but they did not like it, and when they started watching "Better Call Saul" they were wildly drawn into it. Although the series itself hints that it should be watched after Breaking Bad. I won't be surprised if there are people who write their own similar stories. At first, I didn't want to watch the show, but seeing the excellent ratings of the show, and also fueling my interest with El Camino, I decided that I would watch it. Of course, I put it off for a long time, but when they announced that the sixth season would be the final one, I realized it was time. And when I saw it, I regretted putting it off for so long.

Dragon House

"House of the Dragon" did not require audience advances and several episodes to build up - immediately after the pilot, it was clear that we were facing an adult fantasy series in which good finally does not oppose evil. Subsequent episodes only strengthened the status of such a complex film novel, in which, as they say, not everything is so simple. Dozens of destinies are intertwined on the screen, absolutely convincing motives like resentment, hostility and fear intervene in what is happening every now and then, and misinterpreted phrases and random murders become key moments. It turns out a rather gloomy, but believable universe in which it is easy to find one favorite, but you still want to root for everyone. Simply put, the impressions of the "House of the Dragon" are not much different from the reaction to the first seasons of "Game of Thrones": the viewer was shown quite quickly that the heads of the unambiguously good guys are chopped off here.

Separation

«Separationis nothing short of a series of compelling, graphic conflicts: isolated, oppressed office drones versus a mysterious corporation that - for all intents and purposes - enslaves them. Their real "outside" colleagues are against the mystery of where they spend most of their waking hours. Their controlled, drab office environment versus the vibrant escape opportunities bubbling just below the surface. It is at the core of these conflicts that the show delivers its most intriguing ideas and gives us a reason to tune in week after week. Severance takes the questions central to everyone's life (How do I present myself to the world? How do I maintain work-life balance? What really makes up my identity?) and elevates them in a mind-blowing sci-fi drama that's like no other that we have ever seen. He asks questions we've never even considered and dares to suggest that they may not even need to be answered.

Bear

The opening scene of the pilot episode of "The Bear" can cause a panic attack. From the first seconds, everyone here swears, non-stop discussing food and throwing culinary terms around - a kind of Aaron Sorkin in the scenery of a dirty school cafeteria. It is not clear who these heroes are, where exactly they work, and, even more so, that it becomes the cause of fierce disputes. Like the returnee Carmen Berzatto, the audience involuntarily finds itself in an alien and unfamiliar environment - a musty sandwich shop with boorish chefs. You have to adapt as you go.
