The best ranged magic build in Elden Ring is based on the Astrologer. Below we will break down the best astrologer build so you can make your character a deadly battle mage.

The build in Elden Ring focuses on various combinations of Stats, Weapons, Armor, and many other elements that can help the player reach their goal through combat and exploration.

Each assembly Elden Ring, which will be listed on our pages, is unique and has its own approach to the user's playstyle, which can be used in both PvE and PvP situations. Below is the best build we recommend players to try and use on the Astrologer.

Remote build for the Astrologer through spells.

Just the sight of the Elden Ring bosses completely discourages the desire to approach them? Are you bad at parrying and counterattacking? Or maybe you just prefer ranged combat in all games, and do not want to change your principles? In that case, try an effective Elden Ring mage build that feels great in all stages of the game.

Starting class

The choice of a starting class for a magician is small: the astrologer and the prisoner have the abilities for combat magic and starting spells. For a pure mage, an astrologer is more suitable: he has slightly more convenient stats and two combat spells with target damage and area damage. But do not forget that in Elden Ring any character can upgrade any characteristics and get any items and spells, so you can even make a mage out of a warrior or a bandit, it just takes more time.

Key Items

  • For a comfortable game we need:
  • Staff with high magical amplification and scale from Int. The best choice to start the game is the Meteorite Staff. This weapon has excellent magic scales in the early game and increases the damage of gravity spells, but does not sharpen. In order to get it, go to the ruins of Street of Sages. The monsters on the way are strong for a low level character, so don't try to fight them, just drive towards the target. You will find the staff on a corpse stuck in the window of a destroyed building, on the way there will be two aggressive flowers, which are easy to shoot with magic from a distance. • Shield with 100% physical block. There are plenty of such shields in the game, one of them is sold in the hub from a merchant. You can play without it if you are a master of dodges and rolls, but I advise beginners not to neglect the shield - a block can save the life of a fragile mage.
  • A weapon for fighting creatures with high magic resistance. My personal choice is the rogues' favorite dagger, Reduvia. It will take a few levels to hit the right stats, but the high attack speed and massive bleed damage make the investment worth it. Even Rennala, hated by magicians, flies off with a bang without a single spell. The dagger drops from the intruder NPC, which can be killed even by the starting character. To do this, you just need to dodge the attacks of the villain and wait for help: 40 seconds after the start of the battle, the friendly samurai Yura will rush to your aid, with whom you can easily defeat the adversary. True, you won’t be able to get it right away, you will have to defeat the first boss - Godric the Hundred-Handed, and then talk with Roger in the hub (he is sitting on the balcony).
  • For a mage in Elden Ring, light armor is best, because in combat you will mainly rely on rolls and ranged spells, and turn your hero into a tin can, unable to break the distance, the idea is so-so. The Astrologer's starting gear will serve you well, and defeating Rennala will give you a great set of light armor.

Equipped with starting items, you can play comfortably until you find something more worthwhile. Please note that weapon scales change when sharpening. So, for example, the Carian staff from Rennala at the start seems to be garbage with its B scale from Int, but already when enchanted by +5 it has an S scale, and pretty quickly bypasses the meteor staff in terms of parameters.

Spell selection in the early game

The Glintstone Pebble magic projectile will be in your arsenal from the beginning to the end of the game. This simple mana-efficient spell hits a single target and has little homing. The Astrologer gets it at the start, and the rest of the classes can purchase it from the sorceress Sellene, who is worth a look anyway if you decide to play a mage. To get to her, you have to go down the stairs underground in the ruins of Waypoint Ruins and defeat the pumpkinhead mini-boss. If you've already got hold of the meteor staff, it won't be difficult. Glintstone Stars is a spell that will help you in the early game against fast opponents. The three projectiles deal little damage per mana spent (sorry, focus), but have good targeting, making them much harder to dodge. In the future, you will replace this spell with Star Shower (six projectiles), it will appear for sale from Sellena as you progress through her quest chain, and then with Stars of Ruin (twelve projectiles!).

Carian Phalanx - magical blades appear above the hero, which automatically attack the enemy with high targeting accuracy. The spell does not have high damage, but quickly unbalances the enemy, thanks to which he can be attacked with more powerful spells. To unlock this spell, you'll have to join the witch Rennie and help the nasty sorcerer Seluvis. However, it can be fooled, but we will do without spoilers.

Rock Sling is a spell that pairs well with the meteor staff. The mage pulls out of the ground and throws three massive stones at the enemy, which deal significant damage with a small AOE effect. The spell is difficult to cast in narrow corridors and on rough terrain: rocks will cut into walls and terrain. You can find the spell in the north of the place where you got the meteor staff. It is guarded by poisonous NPCs, but it is not necessary to kill them: you can steal the scroll from under the nose of the guard and ride off into the sunset.

Loretta's Greatbow - The mage charges a huge bow and fires a devastating magic arrow. Huge radius, ability to accumulate damage - the spell is ideal for destroying opponents from a long distance or for starting a fight with strong opponents. The casting time leaves much to be desired, so spamming won't work. Dropped by Royal Knight Loretta, boss in Karian Manor (Coordinates - https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/interactive+map?id=1543&lat=-103.69375&lng=55.927699&zoom=8&code=mapA). To get to this boss, you will have to pump and dress up: there will be strong mobs along the way, and Loretta herself is not timid and successfully combines combat magic with horse attacks with a halberd.

In the late game, you can find and try out more powerful spells and decide which ones to keep in your arsenal. Personally, I was disappointed only by the Death spells, which require additional pumping of Faith. In my opinion, they are not worth bothering with, but what if you like it? Elden Ring encourages experimentation, so experiment!

Stat boost

The main parameter for the magician in Elden Ring is Intelligence (or Wisdom in the Russian version). This characteristic increases spell damage, gives scales to magic weapons, and powerful spells require a high Int value. The parameter cap is 80, the increase in damage after 80 becomes small.

For spells, the Mind parameter is also important (and in the Russian version - Intelligence), which determines the amount of concentration (mana). It is worth noting that the most pumped blue flask replenishes you with 220 OK, which means that it makes no sense to pump Mind above 40 (at 40 Mind you will have 220 OK).

The Vigor and Endurance parameters are also important. Although the mage mostly tries not to take damage, a high level of health will insure your fragile carcass from accidental one-shots, and stamina will allow you to always have a light workload and spam more spells. Yes, they also consume stamina, what do you think? Cap Vigor - 60, Endurance - 50, focus on these indicators at high levels.

Elden Ring Astrologer Assembly: Battlemage

If you prefer to attack from a distance, we recommend using this magical build.

  • ClassAstrologer
  • Spreading flasks: mostly FP, with 1 or 2 HP
  • Weapon: Any staff, any melee weapon
  • Shield: any 100% physical block
  • Armor: Any light armor
  • Basic statistics: Intelligence and Mind
  • secondary statistics: Strength and Endurance
  • Skills: Ashes of War: Glintstone Phalanx
  • Spells: Glintstone Pebble, Glintstone Arc, Loretta's Greatbow, Great Glintstone Shard, Carian Slicer, Carian Piercer

With Glintstone Sorcery, you can learn various spells that allow you to hit your opponents while keeping a safe distance, making some boss fights incredibly trivial. For this build, your main stat should be intelligenceto increase magic damage and satisfy certain weapon requirements, and mindto increase your maximum FP. As always, Vitality (Vigor) is also a key stat if you don't want to become a stereotypical Harry Potter wizard. For this assembly, select a class Astrologer, as it has staff and better intelligence stats.

For your equipment, you will need a staff to cast Glintstone spells. If you start as an Astrologer, you will immediately receive astrologer's kit, but you can also buy it at the Grace Lot on the shores of Lake Liurnia. Otherwise, you might have to wait until you reach Raya Lukaria's Academy to get your hands on a suitable weapon from one of the sorcerer enemies.

Staff of the Glowstone Azura, which you can get from the top level of the Church of the Cuckoo in Raya Lukaria Academy, is a brilliant upgrade as you progress through the main questline. This allows you to cast magic spells faster so you can put more pressure on enemies, at the cost of a small increase in FP spell cost. This is a great compromise, as you can easily negate the effects with a few extra points in your mind stat.

When you're ready, staff in hand, equip your spells Swift Glintstone ShardGlintstone Cometshard и Search Slicer. Swift Shard is a fast, low damage spell that you can use to deal with most enemies, while Cometshard perfect for tougher enemies and slower bosses that won't dodge your attacks. Then, when the enemies get close, switch places with the Carian Slicer to perform a quick slash with a magical melee weapon. You can get all of these from Sellen at the Waypoint Ruins in Limgrave.

For your armor, we recommend pairing strong armors such as Double armor, with one of Glowstone crowns . They increase your intelligence by several levels, increasing your magic damage and allowing you to spend runes to level up other important attributes.
