The Best Valheim Bow: How to Craft and Which Arrows to Use
When it comes to survival in the brutal, unforgiving world of Valheim, nothing beats a good bow and arrow. After all, why go head-to-head with a Ghost when you can just shoot him in the face from 30 meters away?
There are four bows in Valheim, but we're here to talk about Valheim's best bow. Nothing can stand in your way when you have this bad boy in your inventory. Here's how to craft it, upgrade it, and how to choose the right arrows to pair with maximum monster-killing potential.
Draug's Fang Bow
The Draugr Fang is not just the most powerful bow in Valheim, it's one of the best weapons in the game. It has the highest piercing damage of any bow and is poisonous, which means you can deal some serious damage from a distance.
Draug's Fang Bow Recipe
Before we start: if you haven't already, kill first 3rd boss in Game . The silver required for the Draugr Fang recipe cannot be obtained before you do so.
Get ready to hunt a bit to get the materials needed to craft the Draug Bow. You'll also need powerful gear - this scavenger hunt will take you to the Swamp, home to undead dragons and other poisonous abominations. Prepare a healthy supply of potions and food to stay alive.
To craft a Draug's Fang bow, you'll need the following items:
- Ancient Bark - 10 pieces. ancient bark can be obtained by cutting down ancient trees in the Swamp biome, and for this you will need bronze ax or higher;
- Deer Hide - 2 pieces. You can get deer skin while hunting deer in the Black Forest or Grasslands biomes. Or you can raid the nearby village of Fuling and steal a few from their tanneries.
- Silver (SIlver) - 10 pieces. Silver is a refined silver ore that can be mined from deposits in the mountain biome. One silver ore can be smelted into one silver.
- Slime (Guck) - 10 pieces. look out for the gaxsacks, the glowing green pouches that can be found in the trees in the swamp. These bags contain Mucus (Guck) , the last crafting material on the list. Gaksaks can only be destroyed with melee weapons, so don't leave the swamp without one!
How to upgrade Draug's Fang Bow
Weapons in Walheim can be upgraded up to three times. Each upgrade increases the overall durability and damage of the weapon. Here is a summary table of the differences between the different levels of the Draug's Fang:
Level of | Durability | Piercing Damage | Poison Damage |
1 | 100 | 47 | 5 |
2 | 150 | 50 | 10 |
3 | 200 | 53 | 15 |
4 | 250 | 56 | 20 |
As you can see, at level 4, the Draug's Fang is twice as strong and deals four times more poison damage. At a fully leveled level, the Draug's Fang is a monstrous weapon that gives you the ability to single-handedly take down almost any enemy in the game. But to reach this level of power, you will need crafting materials - there are a lot of them.
To upgrade Valheim's best bow to the highest possible level, you first need a level 5 forge . Then it was time to head back to the Swamp biome for more grind.
One Draug Fang Upgrade will cost you:
- 14 Deer skin
- 40 Ancient bark
- 22 Slime
- 80 Silver
All you need 44 deerskin , 130 ancient bark , 76 slime и 260 silver, to get a fully upgraded Draugr Fangbow (including original crafting materials). But in the end, you will have the most powerful late game weapon in all of Valheim.
The best arrows for the Draugr Fang bow
Arrows in Walheim can be divided into two categories: elemental and non-elemental. Check out this table where we compare different arrows:
Boom type | Total Damage | Damage type | discard |
Wooden | 22 | An injection | 10 |
Silicon | 27 | An injection | 10 |
Bronze | 32 | An injection | 10 |
Iron | 42 | An injection | 10 |
obsidian | 52 | An injection | 10 |
Needle | 62 | An injection | 15 |
Fiery(Elemental) | 33 | 11 Thrust / 22 Fire | 10 |
Poisonous (elemental) | 78 | 26 Stab / 52 Poison | 10 |
Silver (Elemental) | 72 | 52 Shot / 20 Spirit | 10 |
Frosty (Elemental) | 78 | 26 Prick / 52 Frost | 10 |
If you're choosing the best general purpose arrow over the best Walheim bow, then Needle and Obsidian Arrows are perfect. Both are non-elemental arrows, meaning you don't have to worry about your enemies' elemental resistances potentially reducing their damage. Needle Arrows actually require less resources to craft than Obsidian Arrows, but you need to be strong enough to farm Death Mosquitoes to get them.
When you're facing spirit enemies, the Silver Arrow is your go-to. It gives you the same base piercing damage as Obsidian with the addition of 20 spirit damage.
The highest damage potential comes from Poison and Frost arrows - each can deal 78 damage. However, this is damage over time that comes from a poison or ice effect (depending on the type of arrow). When used against an enemy with natural resistance to the elemental effect of the arrows, frost/poison arrows only do a measly 26 points of damage - only four points higher than the worst arrow type in the game.
Hunter's Bow vs Draug's Fang
Are you looking to upgrade your Hunter Bow? Before you start gathering materials for the hunter's bow, here are some important pieces of information you should consider first:
good bow | Hunter Bow | Draug's Fang Bow | |
Damage (Min / Max) | 32/41 | 42/51 | 52/76 |
Damage type | An injection | An injection | Prick / Poison |
To classify | Good | Great | Fine |
Compared to the Good Bow, the Hunter's Bow is a damage and range upgrade. The hunter's bow has excellent accuracy even at long ranges, which means you can easily pick off enemies from a distance. A fully upgraded Goodbow is comparable in damage to an unrefined Hunter's Bow.
If you already have a max-level Fine Bow, you should consider skipping the Hunter's Bow entirely and go straight to crafting the Draug's Fang. At the highest level, the range and arrows on your Goodbow are not much worse than those of a hunter. And the time you spend gathering resources to upgrade a hunter's bow to level four can be better spent looking for materials to actually create a Draug's Fang.
We hope we've armed you with everything you need to get your hands on the best Valheim bow. Stay alive and happy hunting!
