Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is the second game in series Max Payne, developed Remedy Entertainment . The game follows Max Payne who, tired of his last test in first game , again falls into a series of events in New York, which play out tragically for all participants.

After investigating a series of murders committed by a group of assassins known as Cleaners , Max Payne meets Monu Sax , who is presumed dead and soon discovers that she is the prime suspect in the murder of a United States senator. The two continue to investigate the case and find out who is after them both and why.

Gameplay 

Max Payne 2 is a third-person shooter where the player assumes the role of Max Payne for most of the game, but plays as Mona Sax on several levels to gain a different perspective. Initially, the player's only weapon is 9mm pistol . Players gain access to other weapons as they progress, including pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, long-range rifles, and hand-held weapons. To advance in the game, the player is told what the next goal is in Max's internal monologue, in which Max repeats what his next steps should be.

"Deputy Chief of Police of New York Jim Bravura followed me over the empty shells I had left behind. The gunshots made me deaf to the sirens, but they couldn't drown out the sobs of my dead wife. Mona took my side against Horn. She got shot for it. Her body disappeared behind the closing elevator doors. I killed Horn. I gave myself up to the police. I had enough evidence against Woden to know that he would keep his promise. I lied to myself that it was over. . I was still alive, my loved ones were still dead. It's not over yet."

Admission 

Two years after the events first game Max Payne is an NYPD detective. While investigating a series of murders committed by a group of assassins called cleaners , Max meets Mona Sax, who was presumed dead at the end of the previous game. Wanted for murder Senator Gate, and despite Max's protests, Mona is arrested and taken to the police station. While at the station, Max overhears his new partner Valerie Winterson.talking on the phone about Monet. Suddenly, the station is attacked by the Cleaners who are looking for Mona. Before they reach her, Mona bursts out of her cell and disappears into the night. After Max meets her again at her house, where they fight off the cleaners who followed Max to her house, they begin to hunt down the people responsible for the attack. Their search leads them to a construction site, where Max and Mona defend themselves from the Cleaners. After their enemies flee, Detective Winterson arrives and holds Mona at gunpoint. Mona claims that Winterson wants to kill her, while Winterson claims that she is just trying to arrest the fugitive. After several minutes of deliberation, Max shoots Winterson, allowing Monet to escape. Before dying, Winterson shoots Max, resulting in him being hospitalized.

After Max leaves the hospital, he starts looking for answers. When Max is kidnapped by Vladimir Lem, head of the Russian mafia, he learns that the Cleaners work for Vlad, who uses them to eliminate competition from his business. Max then learns that Vlad is part of the secret Inner Circle, led by Senator Alfred Woden, who secured the charges against Max at the end of the previous game. Vlad plans to kill Woden and take control of the Inner Circle. Max also learns that Mona is Woden's mercenary, ordered to kill Vlad and Max. After Vlad reveals that Detective Winterson was his mistress, he shoots Max and leaves him for dead in a burning building. Mona saves Max and together they go to Woden's mansion to save him from Vlad.

At the mansion, Mona knocks Max down in an attempt to follow her orders to kill him, only to find that her feelings for him are keeping her from doing so. Vlad shoots Mona, realizing she won't kill Max. Woden then appears in a wheelchair and lunges at Vlad; Woden is killed during the ensuing struggle. Max and Vlad begin to fight until Vlad activates the bomb he planted in the mansion. After they both fall down the floor below, Max chases Vlad through the mansion. Ultimately, Max shoots Vlad after the shootout, killing him. Max returns to Mona as the police arrive and she dies in his arms. However, if the game is completed on the highest difficulty, Mona survives. Which ending is canonical is debated, although it is generally considered to be the one that dies, as that is what happens on Standard difficulty.

In the final line of the game, it is revealed that Max is finally coming to terms with the death of his wife.
