Meta plans to release a web version of Horizon Worlds
Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth referred to a "web version of Horizon" that will launch in the future.
Horizon is the Meta brand for its set of "metaverse" VR social apps: Horizon Worlds, Horizon Workrooms, Horizon Venues, and Horizon Home, which will be launched soon. They each use your meta avatar, and each currently requires an active Facebook account to access.
On the Meta platform. Worlds works similarly to Rec Room, allowing users to create their own social games and experiences inside VR, using controllers to place and manipulate shapes, and using a visual scripting system to add dynamic functionality.
Back in February, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told investors that his company plans to launch a “mobile version of Horizon” this year. In both cases, it's unclear exactly how Horizon Worlds, an app designed specifically for VR, will work on these radically different platforms. Perhaps that is why executives use the phrase "version". It is possible that mobile and web users will be spectators unable to create worlds or participate in all interactions, causing these versions to act as marketing for the full VR experience.
