Team Beyond Gaming LOL Midder Suspended on Suspicion of Match Fixing

Beyond Gaming midder Chien "Maoan" Mao An has been suspended by Riot Games due to match-fixing issues in League of Legends Worlds 2021.

Beyond Gaming defeated Galatasaray Esports in their first best-of-five qualifier on October 8, 2021. They are expected to face Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) for a chance to qualify for the main event group stages.

However, it looks like their progress through the standings hit a snag when Chien “Maoan' Mao An was caught for match-fixing. Riot Games seems to have concrete evidence on this. More details on this are provided below.

"Maoan" was giving project-related strategies to a friend to bet on their match in League of Legends Worlds 2021

Riot Games found out that midder Maoam was leaking strategy projects to his friend. They appear to have been betting on Beyond Gaming's picks and bans during their matches in League of Legends Worlds 2021.

“During the 2021 World Cup, Maoan violated Rule 9.3 of the 2021 World Cup Rulebook, which prohibits association with gambling. Integrity in competition is the foundation of our sport and we take all violations of our rules extremely seriously. The Competitive Operations Team has obtained conclusive evidence that Maoan provided insider information to a friend for the purposes of betting on today's match. Maoan will be suspended from the 2021 World Cup and may be subject to additional sanctions after a full investigation.”

Further news suggests that Beyond Gaming boss Xue “Dinter” Hong-Wei has stated that he will fire Maoan over the incident. There is still no news as further investigations continue and there are also reports that another player is involved.

At this point, all players' phones have been confiscated to check for any reports regarding draft leaks. This has definitely put the 2021 League of Legends qualifier between HLE and Beyond Gaming in jeopardy.
