Announcement of Minecraft Live 1.20

The Minecraft 1.20 update was announced during MinecraftLive October 15, 2022, where Minecraft developer Agnes Larsson detailed what players can expect and what they've learned from their previous mistakes during other major updates. You can watch the ad below.

Minecraft 1.20 Features: Sniffer, Armor Overlays, Bamboo and more

While there has been less announced in this update compared to previous versions of Minecraft, there are still many exciting additions that players should look forward to.

New mobs: Sniffer and Camel

As is common with most Minecraft Live events, players were able to vote on which crowd they would like to join Minecraft. For 2022, the players voted for the Sniffer. This adorable creature grows unique seeds and will introduce brand new flowers and possibly crops to Minecraft.

The next mob that came to Minecraft 1.20 is the Camel. Camel is a new controllable mob that two players can sit on at the same time. He can zip through the gorges, multiply and save you from the crowd when he is on his back.

New blocks: bamboo, signs and bookshelves

There are currently three new block additions coming to Minecraft. There are new hanging signs, a bamboo wood set and some working bookshelves.

Hanging signs can be displayed in various places from the side of buildings to the ceiling above you. They are very similar to regular signs, except they are more versatile and look better when placed in multiple places.

The bamboo tree set includes all the usual wooden creations plus a unique mosaic pattern and a raft rather than a boat.

Finally, you will soon be able to create bookshelves that will allow you to place your books inside. These include enchanted books so you never have to worry about packed inventory again. They're also working with Redstone, which means those bookshelf-hidden rooms can now become a reality.

Customize your armor with Smithing templates in the new 1.20 update.
