Monster Hunter Rise. Guide to Weapons and Monsters
The Monster Hunter series is known for its over the top tough weapons and large cast of monsters, and it looks like Monster Hunter Rise will be no exception in that regard.
Last week, the official Monster Hunter YouTube channel released videos outlining what to expect from the game's arsenal.
All 14 weapons are revealed along with two skills you can use with each of them. Many of the weapons featured appear to make heavy use of the new Wirebug tool introduced in Monster Hunter Rise, which should make combat feel a little fresher compared to other games in the series. From Light Weapons to Charge Blade in Monster Hunter Rise there is something to wave.
Weapons in Monster Hunter Rise are divided into 14 different categories - 11 blades and three gunners.
Available weapons are listed below:
Great sword
Long sword
Sword and shield
double blades
Hammer
hunting horn
A spear
gunlance
switch ax
charging blade
Insect Glaive
light gun
heavy gun
Bow
GREAT SWORD
The big sword delivers "meat chops" with crushing power. His Power Sheathe ability is a powerful charged attack, while Hunting Edge is a bizarre aerial maneuver that sees you circling the sky before delivering a devastating blow to your hapless prey.
LONG SWORD
Players who have chosen to hunt monsters with the Longsword will be able to use the Floating Kick attack to perform a jumping strike that will result in a deep thrust. There is also a pose of serenity, which allows you to easily counterattack enemies. Monster Hunter's official Twitter describes the longsword as "cool, calm and collected". Although this is more like a description of players who prefer to use this weapon.
SWORD AND SHIELD
The Sword and Shield combo is incredibly versatile and will make you feel like a jack of all trades. The first skill shown in the video is Falling Shadow, a forward jump attack where a successful hit results in a Scaling Slash. The second one, Windmill, uses iron silk to turn the blade.
DOUBLE BLADES
The Dual Blades are described as "flexible, agile and ruthless". The first move noted for dual blade wielders was Shrouded Vault. This attack sees your character lunging forward and if you get hit while moving, a spinning attack is launched. The second attack, Piercing Bind, allows players to bind an enemy with a Wire Bug, allowing them to gain additional attacks.
A HAMMER
According to the official Monster Hunter Twitter, the Hammer has some "wild crushing power". Hammer wielders will get an Impact Crater attack that allows you to perform an upward attack that also deals multiple hits on the way down. The second skill is Silkbind Spinning Bludgeon, a spinning attack that deals multiple hits while you jump forward.
HUNTING HORN
The hunting horn is an excellent secondary weapon that allows you to strengthen your allies by playing melodies. The Slide Beat skill uses Wirebug to launch you into a spin attack and also grants a status boost. The Earthshaker plunges the blade into the target like a stake and then explodes inside it.
A SPEAR
If you like Lance, there are two tricks you need to get used to: Twin Vine and Anchor Rage. Twin Vine lets you hit a target with a kunai to get their attention, and Anchor Rage lets your shield absorb attacks, temporarily boosting your attack power.
GUNLANC
Described as "the unwavering explosive artillery" on Monster Hunter's official Twitter, the Gunlance is an epic weapon. The Guard Edge skill, acquired by Gunlance owners, allows players to restore the sharpness of their weapons. Hail Cutter allows you to land an upward strike that results in an overhead strike.
SWITCH AX
The Switch Ax is a highly customizable weapon that uses advanced technology to switch between sword and axe. The first allows you to move smoothly and deliver heavy blows, while the second is ideal for fast blows. His Invincible Gambit ability boosts your balance, allowing you to counter attacks that would normally send you flying.
CHARGING BLADE
The Charge Blade can be used as a combination sword and shield, or combined to create a powerful axe. Morphing Advance throws you forward and transforms your blade into an ax shape. Counter Peak Performance prepares your shield by pulling the silk to the ground to keep you in place. If you get hit while your shield is up, your vials will fill up.
INSECT GLEF
Insect Glaive uses aerial hunting tactics with a combination of a nimble staff and Kinsect. The first skill, Silkbind Vault, is a jump attack that spins you forward. The second one, Recall Kinsect, summons your Kinsect, when it returns it performs a spinning attack that scatters healing extracts that you can collect.
LIGHT GUN
The Light Shotgun is a fast and versatile weapon. You will need to master two skills: Silkbind Glide and Fanning Vault. Silkbind Glide lifts you forward to unleash a powerful split attack at close range, while Fanning Vault lets you use Wirebug to jump forward and strike from above.
HEAVY GUN
The Heavy Bowgun is a monstrous weapon that Monster Hunter's official Twitter aptly described as "outstanding, powerful artillery." Heavy Bowgun users get the Free Silkbind Glide skill to perform a close-range attack or quick defense of your weapon, as well as Counter Shot, which allows you to stance in preparation for a powerful counterattack.
BOW
Players who choose to use a bow will be granted two attacks: Herculean Draw, which increases attack and allows the player to move forward in any direction, and Focus Shot, which allows the player to quickly recover while crouching and, if timed correctly, nullify a monster's attack when dodging . Capcom describes the bow as "fast, elegant and accurate".
How to parry
One of the first skills to learn in Monster Hunter Rise is holding onto enemies.
While Monster Hunter: World added a more robust locking mechanism, Rise falls somewhere between that and the older games in the franchise.
Players can snap the camera to an enemy, but will not be able to automatically select a target. Right-click on the Nintendo Switch controller and switch between targets by pressing "L".
As for the positioning of the attack and evasion, it's up to you.
How to dodge punches
Sure, your massive weapons hit hard, but the monsters you'll be hunting hit a lot harder.
With that in mind, it's very important to dodge. Fortunately, this is easy to do - just use "B" and the direction of the left stick to dodge in that direction.
Timing your dodges and counterattacks is a key foundation of Monster Hunter, and Rise is no exception. You may have to fight the monster several times to find out its attack pattern.
How to sit on a palamut
New to Rise are Palamutas, adorable four-legged pets that not only allow you to move through territory faster, but also attack themselves.
Just stand next to your palamute and hold "A" to sit on it. You can jump with ZR, prowl with R, and even drift with ZL while dashing.
Take some time to get used to your Palamut's controls, as they can literally be a lifesaver when a monster approaches you.
