Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak - All 16 new armor skills and how they work

The Monster Hunter games are some of the best when it comes to giving players a lot of choice in their play style and combat options. The latest game in the series, in keeping with tradition, gives players complete freedom to choose their own preferred playstyle with 14 different weapon types that define specific combat vehicles and have their own unique skill set.

With the recent release of Sunbreak, players get their hands on even more unique weapons that allow for some really fun and interesting combinations. Skills in Monster Hunter Rise are not just limited to weapons, and players can also bind certain abilities to desired pieces of armor to increase their combat effectiveness while hunting.

With extension sun break Capcom has introduced several new armor skills that affect combat both actively and passively. Here's a rundown of all 16 new armor skills that come with Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.


16 New Armor Skills That Will Dramatically Impact Combat in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

1) Bladescale Hon

Bladescale Hone is an essential skill for any playstyle and weapon in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. When equipped, this skill will restore sharpness from the user's weapon when swung, replenish projectiles for the bow, and provide a temporary boost to short-range cloaks.

The Bladescale Hone skill has three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: Activated 50% of the time
  • Level 2: Activated 75% of the time
  • Level 3: Activated 100% of the time

2) Blood rite

The Blood Rite skill is really handy for players with weapons that focus on weak point damage. The skill converts a portion of the damage dealt to health when hitting a monster's weak spot. The skill comes with three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: Activate the effect
  • Level 2: Increase the amount of health the player regenerates
  • Level 3: Increases the amount of health restored even more

3) Bloodlust

This skill is unique in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak as it only activates in the presence of the Frenzy virus. Players gain various effects such as increased damage resistance and stamina regeneration, but at the cost of a gradual loss of health.

The Frenzy Virus is a regular occurrence during combat in Sunbreak, making using this skill a viable option for players who are willing to trade some health for bonus effects.


4) Chain Crit

This skill in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is intended for critical hit builds. This skill pairs best with fast-hitting weapons that can deal multiple hits in quick succession (such as Dual Blades).

This skill greatly increases attack power and elemental attack power gradually over continuous landing strikes. The skill has three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: When hit with an attack, temporary attack +5, element +5; hit five times in a row for an additional stat boost
  • Level 2: When hit with an attack, temporary attack +5, element +5; hit five times in a row for an additional stat boost
  • Level 3: When hit with an attack, temporary attack +5, element +5; hit five times in a row for an additional stat boost

5) Charge master

This skill increases elemental and status charged attack buildup when players hit a monster with a charged attack. This is an essential skill for builds that focus primarily on raw damage and empowered charged attacks.

The skill comes with three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: When active, grants a slight increase in elemental damage and status buildup
  • Level 2: When active, grants increased elemental damage and status builds
  • Level 3: When active, grants a significant increase in elemental damage and status buildup

6) Coalescence

This is a passive skill viable for any build in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Coalescence skills temporarily increase the player's attack after recovering from late blight or abnormal conditions.

The skill comes with three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: While active, Attack +12, Elemental Attack Power +2, and Status Gain +5
  • Level 2: While active, Attack +15, Elemental Attack Power +3, and Status Gain +10
  • Level 3: While active, Attack +18, Elemental Attack Power +4, and Status Gain +20

7) Abandonment

Like Bloodlust, this skill drains players' health over time, but boosts their attacks. Players can restore lost health by performing a switch Skill Swap. This skill increases the effectiveness of attack and elemental attacks depending on the exchange scroll used and the level of the Abandoned skill.

The skill comes with three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: Using the Red Scroll - Increase item values ​​and statuses. Using the Blue Scroll - Increased Attack and Stun
  • Level 2: Increases attacks depending on which Swap Scroll is used
  • Level 3: Additional attack support depending on which Swap Scroll is used

8) Outing

This skill is best used in builds that focus around Elemental Affinities or Phytophthalms as the primary damage dealing factors. Raid increases attack power and affinity when attacking a large monster afflicted with any elemental or status affliction, such as poison, paralysis, or any elemental rot.

This skill comes with three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: While active, increases attack power +10
  • Level 2: While active, increases attack power +10 and affinity +10%
  • Level 3: While active, increases attack power +15 and affinity +20%

9) Rage

Furious is a very interesting new addition to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. This skill passively builds rage while fighting monsters when used with the Red Scroll. Go to blue scroll, when rage is full, gives players infinite stamina for a short time.

The skill comes with three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: Increases affinity by 10% while active
  • Level 2: Increases affinity by 20% while active
  • Level 3: Increases affinity by 30% while active

10) Sander (S)

Grider (S) gives a boost to a weapon's Sharpness properties when Sharpness is restored, based on the levels restored. This is a very important skill for Long Sword and other melee builds in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

The skill comes with three levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: Effect activates for 60 seconds when Sharpness is restored at 3 levels
  • Level 2: Effect activates for 60 seconds when Sharpness is restored at 2 levels
  • Level 3: Effect activates for 90 seconds when Sharpness is restored at 2 levels

11) Mail of Hellfire

This is one of the most unique armor skills in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. The skill reduces defense, but in return increases attack power. The exact attribute changes depend on the skill switching scroll used.


12) Fast breathing

Quick Breath is a passive skill introduced in Monster Hunter Rise's Sunbreak expansion that allows players to remove any status ailments when performing a Switch Skill Swap. Health also regenerates when a status is removed, making the skill a perfect choice for any build or playstyle.

Quick Breath comes with one tier, and no additional benefits come with additional tiers. The level functions as follows:

  • Level 1: Activate the effect

13) Redirect

Redirect is a skill that allows players to reduce damage taken and damage reactions if they perform a perfectly timed switch skill just like monster attacks. When active, this skill provides additional protection against physical as well as elemental attacks.

The skill comes with two levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: Activate the effect
  • Level 2: Nullifies incoming damage and automatically dodges the exchange back. This also restores the Wirebug gauge

14) Call of Spiribird

This skill is a quest specific to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. The Spiribird's Call grants players effects from random Spiribirds at certain intervals in certain quests. This skill only has one level with no benefits from further levels. The level functions as follows:

  • Level 1: Activate the effect

15) Setting

This skill is specific to the Bowgun builds in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. The Tune-Up skill increases the stats of custom mods that are attached to Bowguns, making them an essential skill for weapon users.

The skill comes with two levels that function as follows:

  • Level 1: Increases the stats of the Silencer and Shield. If neither is equipped, reload speed+1
  • Level 2: Increases Long Barrel and Power Barrel stats. If neither is equipped, Reload+1 and Steadiness+1

16) Wall Runner (Speed ​​Up)

Last but not least, Wall-Runner (Boost) increases the recovery of the Wirebug Gauge when performing a wall run. Wallrunning has been simplified in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, as players no longer need to dash Wirebug to initiate wallrunning. They simply need to dash or jump towards a climbing surface to perform a wall run.

Wall Runer (Boost) comes with only one level, and additional levels do not provide any additional benefits. The level functions as follows:
