Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 25 Top Tips for Beginners

Bannerlord

Our Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord guide will get you started by transforming you from an obscure peasant into a victorious leader of your own army.

We've been waiting for this for a very, very long time, and Bannerlord Mount And Blade 2 is finally in early access. But if everything is clear with the first part, the sequel will have very alien concepts for many people. However, with our basic tips and spending some time following them, you could very well get better in combat and have an army that will make bandits shake like aspen leaves.

What is Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord?

Mount And Blade 2: Bannerlord, or "Mount And Blade 2" as we'll call it, is the sequel to the original Mount & Blade, which came out in 2006, and its various expansions that have followed since. In the game developed by TaleWorlds Entertainment, the player takes on the role of an individual character roaming the open world with his recruited followers . They can do many things along the way, such as placating or usurping local lords and monarchs, doing favors for the townspeople, and participating in many, many battles.

Unsurprisingly, Mount And Blade 2 takes a similar approach to the previous game, but it does give you a campaign script to make things work. The bandits have kidnapped your little brother and sister, so your character must save them. However, this quickly falls out of focus as you are not dragged into the campaign. Then you can gather your armies and decide the fate of each small village as you see fit.

The game features two different modes: world map and battles. On the map, you travel to cities, trade with the townspeople, and improve/destroy your reputation with various deeds. Battles pit your army against enemy forces in tactical battles where players can use ranged or melee weapons. You are not limited to just foot soldiers, as both you and your army can be on horseback. Siege weapons also come into play later when they storm settlements.

Where can I buy Mount And Blade 2 Bannerlord?

You can purchase Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord at Steam  or via TaleWorlds website . Please note that the link to the TaleWorlds website is just a Steam code anyway, and that they are the same price. As for the early access game, at the time of writing, not all of its functions are present in it so keep that in mind when deciding if you want to buy it.

There is currently a 10% discount off the price. We have included in parentheses the current special price along with the retail price for your region:

  • Russia : 1345 rubles
  • United Kingdom : £39,99

Tips for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

We will have a range Boards by mount And Blade 2, presented here in time, but for now here are some of them for the first few hours of the game. Please note that this is a list of ever-growing tips, so if you have any better tips to get started, drop us a line in the comments section below.

These tips will be split into two sections: combat and world map . The tips for the combat section only really apply if you're into battles, while the tips for the world map are about how to build your armies, increase your renown, and keep your morale high.

Combat Tips

  1. Think of a few skills you would like to build around your character. You can develop skills later through gameplay, so you don't have to fully max out a skill.
  2. Use Focus Points earned through levels to increase your maximum skill level for that stat. You can check the character's skills in the character table at the bottom of the screen on the world map.
  3. When you reach a certain skill level by performing certain actions enough times (for example, attacking enemies with one-handed swords to level up one-handed swordsmanship), one or two perks will be highlighted. Click the highlighted icon, then click the perk you want to select to unlock that upgrade.  Make sure you confirm by pressing the button at the bottom of the screen to lock the perk.
  4. Spend a lot of time practicing in the learning area.  Here's how you can learn the ins and outs of archery, hitting enemies while on horseback, and fighting soldiers in hand-to-hand combat. You'll know when you're ready for ranged combat if you don't miss a single target, when shooting at the shooting range. If you defeat the old soldier taking no damage , you are good enough for armed combat.
  5. Defense with swords and shields relies on you pointing the mouse in a certain direction by default. Since there is currently no autoblock, you will have to practice a lot on the training ground to get used to it.
  6. Try as much as you can in the arena to get more real combat experience. Collect items while you fight to replenish your arrows or spears. If you land the final blow on an enemy, you will get a kill, so catch easy targets whenever you can. You will receive a small amount of gold to reach certain milestones per workout.
  7. When using bows, the reticle shrinks and then expands again if held too long. Try to time your shot when the reticle reaches its smallest point.
  8. Get used to riding your horse as fast as possible and learn how to use a spear. They are good for keeping distance in hand-to-hand combat.
  9. Don't fight on your own. You have an army at your disposal, so make sure you use the function keys to control your troops .
  10. Having ranged and melee troops in your environment creates the perfect balance.

World Map Tips

  1. Save often. You never know when you'll lose a fight and be captured, losing all your followers.
  2. While on the world map, the game will pause when you are not moving. You can use this suspended state to plan ahead.
  3. Riding through forests will be slower than through pastures.
  4. Don't spend too much time chasing marauders if your horses can't catch up. You will just exhaust your army and get no progress.
  5. Keep your party's morale high by winning battles and maintaining food supplies. If you have low morale, your troops can leave you.
  6. The variety of foodstuffs directly affects your morale. Your army loves variety in their food, so don't buy grain if you can afford it.
  7. Ask in villages, towns and castles about finding quests. They are a good source of income if you complete them.
  8. Building relationships with villages and cities will increase the number of people they can let you recruit into your army.
  9. Lords are a particularly good source of income if you complete quests. Lords can sometimes be found in castles.
  10. Defeating a lord in Tablut will increase your renown by one point, but battles will increase fame much more, if you kill big armies.
  11. Swear allegiance to the lord king as soon as you can, or, you know, choose someone trying to usurp the crown and get favor instead.
  12. Upgrading your armies is vital to making them strong. They gain experience in battle and you can spend gold to upgrade your army.
  13. Upgrading your troops when they have the necessary experience requirements will make them cost more, but they come with better equipment to use in combat.
  14. Recruiting people into your army and robbing horses from bandits increases your carry limit.
  15. Sell your loot to get a little cash injection. Look around for the best price on high priced items.
