The shy but not stupid guy Huey (Jack Quaid) lives in a world where superheroes are commonplace: every day they save the worlds a hundred times, act in films and become the faces of advertising campaigns of the largest firms. Huey, like many people, is a fan of "supers" - exactly until the moment when one of them, the ultra-fast A-train (Jesse Usher), accidentally runs through Huey's girl, leaving the guy with her severed limbs as a memory.

Soon, a certain Billy Butcher (walking charisma Karl Urban) comes to a guy going crazy with grief - he introduces himself as an FBI agent and talks about the fact that every day thousands of people suffer from superheroes for whom human life is worth absolutely nothing. He, along with a detachment of operatives - the insane Frenchman (Tomer Capon) and the obsessive-compulsive Mother's Milk (Las Alonso) - set out to exterminate the superhero infection before it gets worse. Hughie joins their squad, but his views on men in tights are soon complicated by his introduction to Starlight (Erin Moriarty), an impossibly "correct" superheroine who finds herself in the local Avengers counterpart, The Seven, where her romantic notions of heroes are quickly and destroyed in the most cruel way.
