Can a promo code be offensive? World of Warships Proves That It Is!
There has been a lot of hype around Wargaming lately. I already wrote about one World of Warships loot box scandal that resulted in content creators pulling out of the affiliate program. Now it's time for even more "fun stuff".
It turns out that one of the developers of World of Warships has been suspended from his duties. Why? Because he prepared a promotional code for the game, which ... offended one of the streamers. Moreover, it was a deliberate action, so this is not a coincidence.
The code in question was shown during a Russian-language broadcast, and you can usually get some goodies for typing it. The code looked like this: W0LAXU5FKUTURY5 . Nothing special, right? However, the players turned to the fragment " FKUTURA ", which can be translated as " F*ck You Tury ».
On the other hand, Terry is one of the biggest influencers in World of Warships, with whom the developers have recently parted ways. He often criticized them and as a result is no longer involved in the affiliate program from which he was kicked out.
However, this could be considered a coincidence. An unfortunate coincidence, a set of random letters lined up just like that. However, Wargaming confirmed that this is ... not a coincidence, but a deliberate action by one employee. The company apologized for his behavior and created a new promo code: TURRYWEARESORRY .
Now be careful with promo codes in games :).
