Shards of the cipher are hidden in four secret chests that are scattered around the world in hard-to-reach places, and collecting all the fragments will create a key to move to another reality. Since this is quite complicated, let's start with how to create a key and get into Muspelheim.
How to get to Muspelheim?

To get to Muspelheim, you need to fill in the disk with the Muspelheim cipher. The disk itself has been divided into four parts - you can find them in purple chests hidden in different parts of the game world.
Where to find the first shard of the Cipher
First shard can be found in the Witch's Cave. This is the region in the south of the map, the area of the turtle house. Approach the fast travel gate and select "Witch Cave Lower Level". It is automatically unlocked during the story. Take the elevator up to the Witch's Cave. At the top, the passage to the chest is blocked by red resin. You have to make Atreus shoot the substance with electric arrows (these are also automatic story unlocks around the middle of the game). After clearing the passage, you will gain access to a chest with a cipher fragment.
Where to find the second shard of the Cipher
Second shard located on the main story path at the top of the mountain, next to the portal near the tree where you meet Mimir. It's in plain sight on the story path. Approach the fast travel gate and go up the path leading through the passage to the rock to the chest.
Where to find the third shard of the Cipher
Third shard find in Crow Rocks (east) of the lake Nine. Go to the end of the square (it is very small). There you are attacked by dark elves. Kill them. A wooden barricade can then be seen on the wall with a golden chain next to it. You cannot reach the chain from below. So, what you have to do is destroy the wooden barricade on the wall and help lift Atreus upstairs. He will climb through the hole in the wall behind the barricade, then lower the chain for you. Where to find the fourth shard of the Cipher
At the top level Forgotten Caverns. This region is on the left side (to the west) of Lake Nine. You must approach from the southern pier, where there is a Mystic Gate. The northern dock leads to another area.
