Gamescom Announces Marvel's Midnight Suns From XCOM Developers
Marvel's Midnight Suns is a tactical strategy RPG that will delve into the dark side of Marvel with heroes such as Ghost Rider, Blade and Magik.
XCOM developer Firaxis' Marvel game is rumored to have been officially unveiled today at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Marvel's Midnight Suns is a tactical strategy RPG that plunges into the dark side of the Marvel Universe as heroes like Ghost Rider, Blade and Magik take on Lilith, the Mother of Demons.
Midnight Suns is based on the 1992 Marvel Comics crossover Midnight Sons, which tells the story of Lilith, a powerful necromancer who was defeated and imprisoned by the mages of Atlantis thousands of years ago. Fearing that she would soon regain her power and wake up, Doctor Strange assembled a team of heroes from Marvel's dark side to stop her again. The Midnight Sons defeated Lilith and her offspring, and later teamed up again several times to form the Marvel Universe's secret occult superteam.
The upcoming Midnight Suns series uses the comic book series as inspiration to tell a new story about Lilith and her child, the Hunter. The Hunter is the first customizable original character in the Marvel Universe and will be the central playable character in the story. Midnight Suns will feature a mix of XCOM-style tactical RPG missions and dialogue-based gameplay between the Hunter and the various Marvel heroes featured in the game. Players will be able to bond with each hero between missions in the central world called the Abbey by interacting with them, engaging in hobbies and giving them gifts.
Midnight Suns will feature 12 playable characters from the Avengers, X-Men and Runaways. The heroes of the cinematic trailer include Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Blade, Ghost Rider, Magik, Doctor Strange, and Nico Minoru from The Runaways. All familiar Marvel heroes have been given a new look to fit in with the game's darker aesthetic.
While the first cinematic trailer was revealed during the opening night of the live stream, Firaxis will also be delivering a first look at the gameplay on September 1st. Viewers can tune into the official website Marvel Suns at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 1st to see what's new in the game. "deeply customizable tactical combat system." Marvel Suns will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Game Store in March 2022.
