What is Mega Evolution?
Brief description for those of you who don't know, Mega Evolution was first introduced in Pokemon X and Y. This is an additional evolution that is temporary.
However, only certain Pokémon can use the Mega Evolution mechanic. There are many, but some of the most notable are Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Mewtwo, and Tyranitar.
It triggers when a capable Pokémon is holding a Mega Stone for its species. It can only be used in combat and on one Pokémon on your team. After the battle, the mega evolved 'mon returns to its normal form.
Mega Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard
Nothing official has been announced yet, but Pokémon Go insiders dug up potential details ahead of time.
Known Pokeminers discovered assets in the Pokemon Go code indicating that raid battles will be used to obtain Mega Evolutions. How exactly this will work remains to be seen.
In addition to this, six specific Pokémon Mega Evolutions have been promoted. These include Venusaur, Charizard X, Charizard Y, Blastoise, Beedrill, and Pidgeot.
Now that these assets are in the Pokemon Go code, we can expect the next announcement very soon. We will update this page as more information becomes available.
