The Elusive Samurai Chapter 107 Spoilers and What to Expect in Chapter 108
The year is 1335, everything looks gloomy. The Hōjō and Suwa forces are devastated and surrounded, and seemingly divine providence itself gives their enemy, the Ashikage, an advantage. Yorishige Suwa was uncharacteristically serious, ready to admit defeat, but at the same time held the line enough for his protégé Tokiyuki to flee. Perhaps the most devastating of this entire chapter is that Tokitsugu, his son, appears to be fatally injured while trying to fight back.
Many soldiers were not even sent to join the Hojo's side in the battle, being considered unnecessary casualties. But still, Tokiyuki still doesn't run away from the fight at all. In the final moments of the chapter, in an act of defiance and seemingly in the earliest chapters, Tokiyuki challenges Takauji, calling him a demon and urging him to give chase. If Tokiyuki is captured and dies, the battle is over and the opponent's goal is achieved, but what if he runs away? Total defeat.
Whereas later chapters may be more or less predicted by the actual historical events on which they are based, culminating in 1336 with the establishment of the Ashikaga Shogunate. If history adapts it carefully, you will even notice that it leads to a new Ashikaga era in which the Emperor of Japan loses power for about 500 years until the Meiji Restoration. But given the shounen style of the story, it probably still has a few tricks up its sleeve.
