New Battlefield Coming Next Year
Now that Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 5 have ceased development, DICE is looking to the future.
After confirming that Battlefield 5 and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 are winding down, Electronic Arts has narrowed the official release window for the next Battlefield. Previously, the head of the company suggested uncertain window 2021-2022 , but now we know that the game will appear next year.
The publisher confirmed the same for IGN , stating that "[DICE] is focused on the future of Battlefield that we will bring to players in 2021." Whether it's Battlefield 6 (or Battlefield 2) or another Hardline-esque spin-off hasn't been specified, but it looks like DICE will want to get the main Battlefield game on next-gen consoles as soon as possible.
This will be the longest hiatus in the series' history and is likely due to the relatively heavy sales of Battlefield 5. EA CEO Andrew Wilson expressed disappointment on the game's launch, blaming the game's delay on its early sales, which fell a million units less than the company had predicted.
This week Battlefield 5 got its latest content update in the form of Into the Jungle, though the servers will of course stay alive, probably for years to come.
